World Sea Fishing Ltd. Company Directors

Mike Thrussell JnrMike Thrussell Jnr, Site Director and Co-Founder
Mike has been running WSF since its inception in 1998 and is currently responsible for the day to day running of the entire World Sea Fishing Web Site.

Mike has been fishing since the age of 3 bagging a flounder on his first ever outing in the local estuary! Mike has been hooked ever since and is now a keen boat angler but will also dabble from the shore when time allows. Mike counts his most memorable fishing experience as casting inside a large tractor tyre at Kilmore Quay in Ireland trying to tempt “something silver”, after 4 hours a 5lb mullet was eventually hooked and landed. Other memorable fish include a 55lb Tope and a 40lb Conger and an Irish Specimen Grey Gurnard of 1.6lbs.

Mike enjoys species fishing for anything “with fins” and keeps a regular species count; Mike is currently on 55 sea species in the UK and Ireland.

Mike would count Country Kerry in Ireland and the West Fjords of Iceland as his angling “meccas”.

Mike has been a professional Angling Journalist, Tackle Designer and Broadcaster for 22years. His interests include all forms of sea fishing, both boat and shore, but he’s also been a keen fly fishermen since the age of eight, and also enjoys a little coarse fishing when time allows.

Some of Mike’s most memorable fish include his first trout on a fly in 1963, 200lb plus bull shark on 15lb line, 70lb plus yellowfin tuna on 18lb line, 100lb plus tarpon, first sailfish, first striped marlin, first blue marlin, a 35lb roosterfish, a tilapia, a 55lb shore tope, and catching the first 200lb fish (205lb porbeagle shark) ever caught in Welsh waters.

He rates his best angling achievement though as targeting and catching 47 different species of sea fish in 12 months within UK and Irish waters in 2005.

Shaun's angling journey began at the age of 5 when natural instinct took over; since then he has been at the waters edge with a rod in his hand, learning, discovering and enjoying. Since his first capture some 14 years ago, Shaun has represented Scotland on a number of occasions, and has went on to establish his self as a freelance angling photojournalist - on top of his 9-5 as a trainee accountant!

Shaun's main angling interest lies with the sea, although he will target anything that swims. He has landed several double figure trout to 18lb on the fly, and re-visits his boyhood flyfishing passion whenever time allows. Shaun believes sea fishing brings him greater challenge, and is inspired by diversity.

Shaun rates winning a gold medal for Scotland amongst his greatest angling memories, but admits that his greatest achievment is having the opertunity to inspire people through his work. Shaun is highly motivated, and his ambition is to travel the world, fishing along the way.

Started sea fishing at 10 on Blackpool North Pier, caught a dab, been hooked ever since. Got my first boat at 12 and had one ever since, present boats are a Pilothouse 620 with 90hp merc, Menai Marine custom RIB with Suzuki 40hp, Quicksilver inflatable with 6hp Merc, 12 foot open boat with 9.9 Evenrude. Only do boat fishing these days.

Semi Retired Marine Mechanic now, been working on boats for ever it seems, I have my own fully equipped workshop at home with lathe and welding gear to make and repair all those bits that normally cost a fortune at the chandlers.

Favourite fishing: Definitely has to be light line for whatever, freelining live sandeel for bass on ultra light spinning gear, tope on a downrigger, bream on float. Used to tow the boat all over the country but now stick mainly to the Lleyn Peninsula. I get more of a buzz these days watching someone else catch a good fish than hooking it myself strangely.

I have been fishing since I was around 5 years old, my dad took me to a pier where I spent the afternoon pulling coalies and mackerel. I have been hooked ever since. I spent some time coarse fishing when I lived in The Netherlands but the sea has always been my first love. My baptism of fire on the boat was a force 8 while Haddock fishing at Kinlochbervie. Needless to say I was ill, but once I had overcome that I loved it, couldn't get enough and still can't.

I still enjoy both boat and shore fishing to this day. Most of my winter months are spent perched on a rock on the east coast of Scotland. Hunting for that elusive 'lunker' cod. My attention then turns to other species in the summer and of course pollack spinning on the west coast.

I first discovered World Sea Fishing when I was hunting for user reviews on a reel, that as they say was that. I viewed as a guest a few times and finally joined up. I have never looked back since, everyone is really friendly and there is more advice on here than you can shakes a stick at.

I'm happily married with 2 little girls, I have started the eldest off fishing so hopefully she'll catch the bug as well.
