PUBLISHING
Dave started his angling journalism career some 16 years ago, first being published in Carpworld magazine. Soon after that he decided to do a Media course at college, which included newspaper, radio and magazine journalism. Part of that course was a week of ‘work experience’, which he managed to get with Improve Your Sea Angling magazine at Emap Publishing. He made such a good impression at the company and was offered the job of Staff Writer, which he immediately took!

After four and a half years, with a deputy editor role under his belt, Emap closed the magazine and he moved to David Hall Publishing, as Deputy Editor on Total Sea Fishing magazine. During this time he was also Deputy Editor on Advanced Carp Fishing magazine for six months. After a year he was promoted to Editor of Total Sea Fishing Magazine, a position that he held for six years. He then moved to the editor’s role at Boat Fishing Monthly Magazine. Dave has been editor of BFM for for three and a half years now with the magazine going from strength to strength.

ANGLING
Dave started boat fishing at the age of four (if you google his name you’ll see a picture of him in his pants – aged 5, collecting bait!). Dave boat fished every weekend, weather permitting until the age of 16, then he found girls and pubs and heavy metal!

From the age of 18 onwards Dave got the carp fishing bug, and spent an entire year minus 12 days camped out on two lakes in Essex while field testing baits for Kevin Nash!

He then got the job at Emap, which dragged him back into sea fishing and opened doors for him to get his shore fishing techniques honed by fishing with the likes of Alan Yates, Bradley Riseborough, Paul Stevens and Steve Allmark, plus a whole host of other international shore anglers.

It also allowed him to boat fish all over the country with some of the UK’s top skippers, and the job as editor of a national fishing magazine has taken him further afield too. To date , Dave has been lucky enough to go big game fishing all around the world, including Africa, The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Tobago, Florida and many more exotic locations.

Dave’s most memorable fish to date is a 95.5kg yellowfin tuna that he caught off Kenya on just 50lb class stand up gear – it was just 2kg off the national Kenya all tackle record!
