Some of you may have read my last blog in which I detailed the ongoing problems with the WSF server. We have now purchased a brand new machine and this will go live this week. In order to keep everybody fully informed as to the procedures of the move I will describe in detail how the move will happen.
Firstly the move will begin to happen later on tonight (Monday 29th October) and will take until Thursday the 1st of November. The first portion of the site to be moved will be the WSF Shop. This will be moved to its new home of wsftackle.com.
Once the shop has been successfully moved worldseafishing.com will be closed down whilst we transfer the data over to the new server. You will be able to post and use the site via worldseafishing.co.uk after half an hour of closure which will be pointed to the new server first. Once worldseafishing.co.uk is working, we will set up a redirect from worldseafishing.com which will automatically move you over to the working site. We will then change the name servers on worldseafishing.com to point to the new server. Once all the name database records have been updated, worldseafishing.com will again become the primary WSF domain name and address.
The timeline for this is as follows but will almost certainly change depending on any problems we encounter.
Tuesday 30th of October – The WSF Shop will move to wsftackle.com
Worldseafishing.co.uk will be moved to the new server, the site will be shut down at 10AM to move the data over to the new server, Worldseafishing.co.uk will become the primary domain for WSF from 10:30AM. Worldseafishing.com will then be transferred over to the new server.
Wednesday 31st October – HALLOWEEEEEEEEEEEN! So something is bound to go wrong, but by 8AM Worldseafishing.com should be back on its primary domain and working fine and dandy. We hope.
Last time we did this a number of visitors had problems accessing the real live site and were always shown the old “closed” site. We narrowed this down to an ISP problem in how often they update their name server database, if after Thursday you are still seeing the closed sign – then a quick call to your ISP should solve the problem.
