Selva Dorado 60EFI

Selva are an Italian company based in Tirano where they have been manufacturing outboard engines for over 50 years. In the process they have built up a substantial reputation throughout Europe, this based on engine reliability, but also for having an excellent back up service regards spare parts.

The Selva Dorado 60hp EFI outboard motor is in one of the most popular size ranges for outboards regards angling craft typically powering boats in the 15 to 18ft range.

It is a 4-cylinder, double overhead cam 16-valve engine rated at 996 cc’s, with a bore x stroke of 65mm x 75mm. Its maximum rev limit range is between 5000 and 6000rpm, and with a power output of 44,1kw.

This EFI Fuel Injection model is fitted with four carburettors, these supplied with fuel via an acceleration pump. This combined system is said to achieve a greater overall performance, plus gives a much smoother build up of power throughout the whole rev range, but combines this with low exhaust emissions to preserve the environment.

This electric start model sports an ignition system micro processor and electronic spark advance system to maintain optimum timing throughout all power levels. It is also equipped with an electronic over revolution limiter, which in layman terms is a sensor that stops the engine being over revved, plus you have a low level oil warning system to protect the engine should the oil be running low. The alternator is a powerful 12V/200 watt model.

Cooling is achieved through pump circulated water with the exhaust gasses emitted under water through the propeller. The propeller is 3-bladed with a built in spring drive, and the transmission ratio is 13/24.

The engine is protected from corrosion by a series of sacrificial anodes, with the outer casings also designed to withstand the elements and resist corrosion during a life in saltwater.

Other features include a double speed power trim and tilt system, plus you can set the motor to kick up out of harms way to protect the prop and transmission leg when running through shallow water.

The basic weight of the Dorado 60hp EFI is a creditable 111kgs.
