Yamaha 150A 4-Stroke
The market inside angling for the bigger 100hp plus motors is growing quickly in both Europe and the UK as boats in the 18 to 22ft range become more popular. The highly rated Yamaha 150A engine is ideally suited to this size range.
The engine is a 2670cc, 16-valve, 4-cylinder, dual overhead cam 4-stroke with a bore and stroke displacement of 94 x 96.2mm giving a propeller shaft out put of 110.3Kw at 5500rpm. Its full throttle operating range is 500-6000rpm.
It features Yamaha’s unique Electronic Fuel Injection System (EFI) by which a micro-computer is continually monitoring engine information to perfectly adjust the fuel and air mixture to give the ultimate burn performance under all conditions. This results in better starting, increased running performance, smoothness, improved fuel economy and cleaner emissions.
PrimeStart is an auto-choke feature enabling the helmsman to start the engine from cold at the turn of the key, which is really handy on a busy slipway first thing in the morning.
The TCI Ignition System uses no moving parts and is “solid state”. This gives reliable and easy starting, maintains a powerful spark regeneration at all speed, gives a more consistent spark, maximises plug life and is maintenance free.
The alternator is a high power output 2V-35A model rated to give 28A at 1000rpm enabling a collection of onboard electronics to be run at low revs.
The intake and exhaust systems are at the cutting edge of modern design thinking and have given improved combustion efficiency to attain a higher degree of high speed smoothness with economy and total reliability. The exhaust emits through the propeller hub.
Warning features include a neutral throttle limiter, over-rev limiter, over heat warning, low oil warning, plus the engine cannot be started in gear, either forward or reverse. You also have the secure knowledge that when running over shallow ground the engine has a Shallow Water Drive feature to kick the motor up out of harms way should the leg make contact with the ground.
The Power Trim and Tilt system offers smooth easy operation with a -4 degrees to +16 degrees position range giving the helmsman to set the motor to get the very best performance from the boat in all conditions.
When it comes to flushing the engine through at the end of the day, then there is a hose connector built in to the leg that allows the waterways to be flushed with fresh water without the engine needing to be run. This helps keep corrosion at bay.
Other corrosion features include large sacrificial anodes situated in key areas of the engine block, engine casings and lower unit. The anodes are made from high grade alloys that work to minimise the effects of saltwater corrosion. An additional zinc coating is also applied to all non-moving stainless steel parts to better resist galvanic corrosion. Key parts such as drive and prop shafts, steering arms and through tubes are all constructed from anti-corrosive stainless steel, as well. The exterior casing has a series of tough primers and undercoats, plus acrylic resins applied which are baked at high heat for ultimate adhesion and hardness.
It weighs 216kgs and is available in both short and long shaft versions, the long shaft model being the FL150A.
