i've always been a sea angler and never ever thought of any fresh water fishing but now im interested in catching my first ever fresh water fish and fly fishing is the way i want to do it.

is there anyone in the ayrshire/glasgow area up for giving an induction?

im looking to go along somewhere to watch and learn a bit more about it before i go out buying new kit.

hope you find someone to take you out cant beat the fight a big trout gives on a fly rod. i only took fly up last summer first night out with my new gear caught a 3 pound rainbow that was me hooked! away to get a rod and reel for saltwater/pike cant wait! good luck mate

Suggest you take a look at the Federation of Fly Fishers website under www.fedflyfishers.org this is sort of an international thing and they have certified instructors thoughout the world. Look under "certified Instructors" on their website. I had a look who they had around Glasgow and came up with Andrew Toft. His phone number is 01236 825753 and e-mail is andrew-toft-flysport@tiscali.co.uk
This is just a suggestion but you can't go much wrong with a day of professional instruction to get you going on the right track.

after watching nick hancock wrestling a rainbow on a wee matchstick rod im itching to try it. it looks great fun!:thumbs:

Since you are in that area, why not take a trip to Glasgow Angling Centre open days (http://www.fishingmegastore.com/open-weekend.html) (Fri-Sun, 7-9 March)?

They have a whole heap of experts who will be demonstrating various fly casting techniques, plus a Question & Answer session.

Also Fly Tying Demos.

A few of the local clubs have sana recognised instructers who nomally give there time free.
If your stuck i could give you some instruction for the same in beachcasting.

hello there mate :fishing1: ive been fly fishing all my life and have won a few contest's in the past. i now only fly fish for fun :fishing:i see that your at the other end of the island but if your ever down here in my neck of the land give me a shout and i might be able to show you a few tricks and spots.for me flyfishing is the most natural and impresive way of deceiving a fish and that first take off a good naturalised rainbow or brown trout on a fly that you have tied yourselve is explosive and sudden.i've caught good rainbows in the past at siblyback lake that have over wintered in the lake that have weighed no more than 3lb but have fought for nearly 20 mins.
fly fishing is great fun and i would definatly recomend anyone giving it a go:thumbs::fishing: good luck and stick at it persitance is the key as usual cheers ben:victory:
