Eastbourne in April

A few of us are meeting up fishing in Eastbourne at the beginning of April, but I have no idea what fish we should be targeting. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

the pier in eastbourne is prob your best bet for easy fishing, i fish there from time to time, you normally catch everything off of there for about a month before and after i hits the beach, late april will prob see bream, bass, early gar, mackeral, allsorts!

there are a number of beach marks, from the sov harbour along to the wish tower, the wish tower end is very snaggy though, not generally a mark to fish until the summer when the bigger bass and hounds are about. langley point from the sovereign leisure centre to the harbour is generally ok, though most of my fishing is done in the bay, so can't be overly specific.

bait is always lug, then rag, mackie, squid, etc. all the usual suspects!

rigs, 3hk clipdowns for worm baits at distance, try a d-vice to get big rag baits out, or flappers close in, i normally use size 2 kamasans, they do for most fishing. if it's rough i step up to 2hk rigs, 1/0 or 2/0, and big worm / slipper limpet or worm / mussel baits.

This is going to be a kayak fishing session and it's likely to start around the wish tower end paddling towards beachy head. Perhaps we'll be able to catch an early bass if we're lucky. I'll take your advice on the bait though, lug , possible tipped with squid and slipper limpet if I getup early enough :):).

no problem mate, if you're kayaking over a high tide, there's a couple of other marks, just out of most peoples casting range, down the east end of the pevensey area, some real nice gullies and features which might prove ok, i know when i can reach them from shore, i usually do ok!

From your kayaks spinning or trolling for bass 50-110 yards out and along the reefs should provide bass. The first mackerel have already been caugh by boats!

We intend to launch from the car park since it is so close to the water

I went wreck fishing from my Kayak last summer, theres a good spot for conger / bass over an old 1940's steamer... easy paddling distance from Langney point... 55 047 N / 000 20 3 E if you have GPS... if im off work on the 5th.. i may bob down and say hi!

can I just (boring.....!!) recommend you study a tidal chart for the head for the times of day you will be in the water. There are some areas of the head at certain states of the tide that I dont think you would want to be in with a kayak!

One of the lads has got a gps so we'll probably try this old steamer :)
