Newhaven. Any tips?

I am thinking of going down to Newhaven on the 2nd January and was wondering if anyone can give me some advice.

What are the best venues to try? Is the marina arm doing any good and if so how do you get to it?

What is the nearest tackle and bait shop and what would be the best baits to use?

Also, what are the likely catches?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
