Mine was a rucksack which was full of jars of meat paste.......completly full......weighed a ton!!

well......was it crab paste ?..... my brother were sea fishing with me and a group af mates once....he was nt having much luck,we were all catching ,he was nt until he struck a large knock on his rod.It made his rod bend... he looked at us thinking "well this will show them !".... his reel clutch kept slipping....he kept smilling.... he landed it..... it was a large beach towel !!!!! .. we all fell about laughing.....not caught anything odd myself but will watch this thread with interest.....

Mine was a flat tench! really weird looking thing, thought it was a new species of fish at first.

Not that unusual but a carrier bag it fought like hell from about 100yds

Hiya,

centre page spread out of a XXX mag from the river leven.. quite a tasty picture it was too :)

My ex caught a latex surgical glove on the lip and it came in like a severed hand.. that wasn't a good experience :(

Out on a charter boat once, had a real heavy pull and lifted into something that was pulling yards of line off the reel. The skipper asked for the rest of the lads to pull in their lines,decks were cleared and the big gaff was readied. I was gaining line on this creature, and something big and black was slowly coming towards the boat, thrashing on the surface.

The skipper leaned over and the gaff went in....and a large wheelie bin lid came over the side.

It took a long time to live that one down....

a few years ago i was fishing off mumbles pier and i was cutting up some mackrell and my hand slipped and the knife fell in the water:sad:
anyway some time whent bye and i was reelling in my line and i saw something shiney and i imediatly thought it's a macky or something..

but i hooked the handle of the knife :ohmy: could not believe it...

it wasn't me but a kiddie i was fishing with had a take whilst catfishing in Spain.

he had hooked the centre of a watch type lead, fair and square!

pulling it in it had a 165lb catfish on the end !!! he hadn't caught anything over 50lb all week..lol

ps. next morning he had a 185lber.. 'kin typical!

don't know if this counts.....fully grown common seal...caught on a carp rod while fishing for mackies..i hooked two of them and the seal had them for a snack...put a real bend in the rod though

On one of the best fishing trips ive been on the skipper hooked suddenly into something strong. We were fishing near a foiled Destroyer so for a while i expected a conger or young ling. Quarter of an hour later something wide and black was seen fluttering in the depths under a mighty ben in the rod. What he'd hooked didnt turn out to be a big ray, ling or conger but a smallish sheet of destroyer boat armour bent aound the weight.

had a similar experience off mumbles as well.
had cast out and realised my forceps were missing.looked around and could'nt find them.a bit later when reeling in,noticed i had something,yep,my forceps.the handle must of got caught on the hook and i had cast them out,amazingly they had stayed on the hook and had come back in safely.
also had a sweatshirt when plugging on the severn and a pink dress off chesil with a doggie wrapped up in it:laugh:
