Floated worm or maggot. Ledgered worm or maggot. Small lures. Fish baits. All of these will catch you a perch.
Float fish worm near the bottom, over fishy groundbait laced with chopped worm and maggots. Fish barbless and take a disgorger, as perch often swallow hooks.
Ps did you ever go "method" fishing?

i fish for perch just by using a wee rolling ledger and slowly bump my bait back towards me. works very well for me.

was flaffing around yesterday and put a crayfish tail on a hook and chucked the line out by hand, did'nt go far enough so pulled it back in.a lovely persh of im guess 2-2 1/2 lb took it mid water, but lost it 18 inches from the bank . perch love movement, you will quite often induce a bite on the retrieve.big lobworm baits, dead bait, live bait, lures, spinners, all will attract perch.quite often you will see them following the bait in or a big one following a small one in.stop the retrieve and you can watch them take the bait

its a good fish to go after i prefer to use a six gram piker float by drennan and a must semi circle hooks {mouth hooked always}
fish on the bottom and just off using lobs or live shrimp
this method is deadly
when you hook a fish take a mental note of the location on the water and run the float through again .this can sometimes pay off big time as this species shoals and if you find a shoal you will be pulling them out all day
when you see your float go under dont strike leave it a few seconds and if the watter is clear enough you will see the float getting toed away by the fish ,this is when you should strike
if you use this method it will put alot more fish on the bank for you

you are best targeting perch during low light conditions.
they are an ambush predator so are more active early morning or evening as the sun drops. Or go on a cloudy day.
if you get there and the sun comes out, look for shady areas...under trees, the shady end of the lake etc.
Bait can depend on where you are fishing; if there are lots of bait fish they will be more used to taking them so use fish bait or lures and vice versa, if there isn't loads of baitfish lobworms may work better.
strike early though as they often swallow the bait and are prone to dying because of the position of the internal organs.

if one does die on you, take it home, they are very good eating.saves it being wasted.
gave a couple of circle hooks to a friend who said they were very good for lip hooking.going for some big stripeys with them soon...will post the results:thumbs:

I can imagine circle hooks being perfect for perch fishing, you may be able to leave the bite a bit longer as suggested by Garyagreen, which should put extra fish on the bank safely.
Aren't there loads of bones in a perch ??? I've never eaten one.

shame you didnt live closer to me i own a perch pond all wild bred also keep some in fish tanks for breeding for people for their own ponds for something different also in my pond if i fancy a challenge are a couple of 3ft sturgeon now those are crafty little beggars to catch perch will definitely feed on worm any movement in the water and they are aggressive fish but fantastic to watch them bred and lay eggs if there isn't and food for them at the time they eat their own young as well

Use chopped worms/casters As feed And fish near any weedbeds/overhanging branches etc/. Perch love cover AND thats where they will be normally on a sunny day. Every venue is different so enjoy your quest.

Great fun on the fly, sink tip with orange fritz. Reservoirs is one of my favourite places to target bigger perch. Noticed by mistake one day when i was fishing for trout that i was getting follows but they didn't look like trout. Was fishing at the deep end of the reservoir casting at the wall and letting the fly (little black pennel) sink down the wall (a method which has been sucessful in the past when the trout weren't playing.) Changed fly to the fritz, increased the retrieve speed and ended up with some nice trout and perch.
Apart form that as already said the good old worm floated or ledgered is hard to beat.
Tight lines, would love to see that guy's perch pond !!!
