Fished Abbotsbury last weekend for 4 ish hours from 9 till 1 daytime and lost all my rag to small hungry nibbling fish!
Must admit it was my first time sea fishing in England so didn't expect much. Still enjoyed meself though but can you help for next time.
Fished a 2 hook distance rig with rag and a wishbone in closer also with rag, what was wrong?
As much as it was great to be away from the usual weekend activities(Watching footy on telly and stuffing my face) i would actually like to catch something for the table!
Any help is appreciated for next time.
Cheers all.

Try tipping off with some Mackie or squid. also hook sizes can be a factor if it was pout nibbling! keep trying and good luck!

try a whole squid with a bound rag or lug on a pennel maybe...
big baits keep the smaller ones at bay most of the time, or at-least present them with a challenge!!

Try coming back in a few weeks. I think if you are fishing for the table, there isnt so much around at the moment. Odd plaice is the tastiest I have heard of recently. Only a matter of weeks (or possibly this weekend?) when the mackerel shoals will give you something a bit tastier for your efforts. Unless of course you can deal with dogfish,(very tasty eventually) in which case' like the lads say, go back at night with mackerel bait.

Cheers all for the advice.Think i'll take 4 or 5 different baits and go for a night fish next time.
Not just fishing for the table though Rob, sport /fun also.
Are there any spots at Abbottsbury that are easier to catch?
I've read that the dragons teeth are a good place(is this the first set of tank blockers or the second that you can see on google earth?).
All advice appreciated , think i'll go and have a cuppa tea and a nice slice of cake:thumbs:
