Hi guys thanks for all the replies I have been on hols ,I'm really pleased there's some welsh in here .I don't generally fish in Feb due to the water temp dropping and apparently the fish are semi cromatised and as a result dont feed (so the experts say ).I tend to agree as to my knowledge I have never been very lucky in Feb.
I've seen in the post lately that Mumbles pier is open on certian nights .It amazes me when I see the big casters bombing out their baits when I have always found that drop it over the side and thats where the fish are anyone agree ?
Knab rock has been a lucky venue for me this winter also , good size whiting ,few doggies, I went there one night for a 3am tide around 12 midnight and there were at least 20 fishing on a lousey night rain and wind ,nevertheless a good outing .Any way keep up the chat and thanks again ( Jury )

instead of going down mumbles peir try the Docks....the access is great and easy park by Rogers Tackle and walk down to the end of the peir there on the beech of the docks and the whitting fishing off there is excellent. use a lug, squid mix or just squid for the best results

Well done Rob, see you on the wreck trip out of Weymouth on the 31st!

certainly professor

The Dock is a shore based location. Hope you make it there soon.

Also returning to the theme of natural signs...I was wondering does anyone else take seeing seagulls inland as sign of a bad fishing day?

Fished off Mumbles pier Thursday 11th March, never fished in conditions like it,sooo windy and cold i lasted about 4 1/2 hours and finally packed it in,had to secure rod stand to iron chain railings with nylon zip ties, never seen a 7oz lead blowing horizontally when lifted from the water. One doggie caught.
Paid £3 a rod. Had a bit of a giggle when i went to pour myself a cup of boiling Oxo and the contents of the mug blew out and onto the neck of an innocent by-stander. The venue really looks the part but i won't be back until the wind is a bit more forgiving. Talked to the chap collecting fees for the rods and he reported a poor year off the pier to date. If anyone fishes this venue in the future drop a line on the forum let us know whats happening.

Hi kenneth me and my mate used to sell bait from his house when I was in school, it was a good little earner and we sold just about every type of bait we could obtain, my advise though is to concentrate on the bait that is used most frquently in your area and if you are digging vast quantities remember to fill the holes you have dug and leave any green or undersized worms on the beach. Good luck, if you need any advice on storage and other matters I would be happy to help.

Hi guys, further post. I went fishing in pendine over the bank holiday and managed to bag 8 flounder, 2 of decent proportion and a dog fish. The top bait for the evening/morning was ragworm, I also tried Lugworm and White ragworm which proved to be less effective. The best fishing can be had between the two towers that overlook the beach and firing range.

Hello everybody. I'm another Pembrokeshire Pig and if anyone needs local info I'll try and sort them out. Might even meet up if I'm not busy.

One thing. We've got some beautiful marks down this way but some anglers (locals and visitors) think that used Ammo packets, line and food waste enhances this beauty. They are wrong. Access to fishing shouldn't be taken for granted. If the National Park Authority decided to ban anglers from some marks due to litter I would have to support them.

Good luck to all the caring anglers out there.

Cheers,

hi everyone. went fishing at st govans head last thursday. according to a certain magazine the fishing there is marvellous. plenty of wrasse, doggies, pollack, bass. 6 of us fished with 2 or more rods from long casts, spinning and floats and all we caught was 2 small doggies and 2 smaller pollack. we used every bait available and technique and still 4 of us blanked. (i didn't blank so i'm not as gutted as the others!)

For wrasse and Pollack I always find mid to late summer the most productive, I have a mark near St. Davids where I go every summer and can almost gurantee a 15-30 fish, my best was a 4lb wrasse caught on a ledgered crab, but generally everything else caught on float fished rag this takes wrasse from 1/2ld up to 2 1/2 lb and pan size pollack, which is great fun on really light gear. + plenty of makerel to be caught on feathers, but would suggest using a light beach caster as the makerel always seem to be to far out!

Let us know how Aberavon is Denzle , you will perhaps have read the post ,Aberavon fished out ,I would love you to prove me wrong, Oh just another note on Aberavon. There's a plague of kite surfers there now and they sail pretty close to us fishermen if you excuse the pun,had a chat with one of them about the obvious dangers of our gear being in their flight path but alas I met with some verbals and at 6ft 4" and 16 stone, I can tell you he took a chance, but I understand the beach is there for all to enjoy ,but three and a half miles of surf we should be able to aviod each other with a little common sense.

I heard that one of them kite surfers suffered serious if not fatal injuries off the beach in Aberavon this week. As i mentioned earlier i regularly fish off the long arm which is just down the road from Aberavon, went down early this morning fished 3 hours either side of high water (HT. 9.20AM) did'nt have a particularly busy day just 2 dawgies 1 whiting and a 3 bearded rockling, one consulation was the fine weather, still enjoyed myself anyway. Met a chap down there who reckons Morfa beach is fishing well for flatties, anyone fished there lately?

Yes i'm afraid my post was ill timed ,the lad is critical, the power of nature lifted this lad out of the water and over the fish shop, and crashed into the wall ,the distance he travelled was behond belief,I sure all of us wish him well and a speedy recovery,When I worked for Corus I fished Morfa a lot and enjoyed many outings there ,the surf is good and productive most times of the year
