Just wondered who believes that there local shore angling patch is consistently the best in the UK for year round fishing with a good variety of species?
Mine (Blackpool area) certainly isn't and should I ever get the chance to retire somewhere that is, then where would be best?
I appreciate that this is going to be highly debatable and subjective, but wondered if a clear leader may indeed emerge.
Phil :g:
for shore it is North devon, we can see 6-8 species in a session from some places, and have great bass and ray fishing, tope from the shore codling show in the winter.
i do not believe there is a better all round place anywhere, scenery is fantastic too.
i have to be honest and say i have only fished the south coast southampton area, portland and weymouth chesil etc. blackwater/crouch estuary in the south east. so only have those to compare it against.
31/2 moths into the year and most of our crew has already hit 15-16 different species.

For the variety of marks it provides, Cardigan bay is a top place.

Anglesey must be up there Phil:clap2: a hell of a lot of coast line to hit within 20 mins of driving where ever you are on the island. The species possible is outstanding it would give the southern counties a run for there money:yeah:

maybe the gower penninsular, or ireland to name a few!

I think it has to be Cornwall, so many species, so many places to fish, all year round fishing for mack Bass etc. no equal on the mainland

Well it would appear that the South West and Welsh coasts are joint favourites at the minute, with perhaps Ireland a late runner!
Are there to be no entries from the South, South East, North East, North West (of course not, I'm here!) , Scotland, Isle of Man & Jersey!!!!
Come on lads, root for your area.

maybe not the best area in the world but i have been fishing around the clacton and holland area since moving here 2 months ago. so far i have caught skate, dogfish, codling, rockling, bass, whiting, pouting and flatfish. so in my mind not a bad area!!!!

Holland? from Essex. Have you considered entering any tournament casting competitions?
Anyway, some good species there, so can't be bad at all.

Its not the Chesil Bank. People should stay away its rubish. :ahhh::yeah:
I fish the Essex coast, mainly the Blackwater Estuary and St Osyth area, The scenery is good, most of the marks are comfortable and fairly easy to reach, there are plenty of good pubs and good tackle shops - There is only one thing that would make it better ----:fishing1:
MORE AND BIGGER FISH!!!!!:whistling

hi phil as you know i live down the road from you but have fished this country from scotland to cornwall and i belive the best alround fishing throughout the year must be the channel islands, both from the shore and off small boats, bass 12 months of the year, heaven, anglsey is good in summer as is the whole welsh coast but it has the same slack times as we do,

Glad to hear that Billy, especially as I'm off to Jersey for a few days next week with a view to mainly fishing, bait and spinning. I'll be double chuffed if I just get a few fish that are worth having your picture taken with, or even a fish of a lifetime (you never know) and that wouldn't need to be very big for me, as I'm pretty used to just catching them around a 1lb or 2lb at best!!!! perhaps some new species as well, as my tally from round here is pretty slim when it comes to variety. LOL.
Cheers to everyone for the insights.

The North Wales coast from the Dee to the Lleyn, including Anglesey has to be up there.
Boat fishing is some of the best in the country, with Rhyl, Conwy, Anglesey and Caernarfon Bay giving excellent fishing.
Shore wise, the only quiet months are Febuary and March, but there are still fish to be caught if you know where and when.
It is not impossible to catch 40+ species in a year from this area, and the varied ground, from the Dee estuary, along the beaches like Colwyn Bay, Llandudno North Shore and Dinas to the deep water rock marks of Anglesey and the Lleyn, means that this area has a bit of everything, and all within a couple of hours drive from the M6.
Oh yeah, we have produced the likes of Mike Hall and Alan Price, both former World champions, aswell as Shane Russell, Pete Corker, Mike Flynn and Dave Morrell to name but a few. Anglers who have proved the cream of Britain and the world!!!

Does Anyone Know Of Any Decent Places In Kent Am New To This Sea Lark Defected From The Fresh Side Just Starting Out Also Any Bait Tips
the chocolate waters of the upper bristol channel, start the year in january....good chance of codling, whiting, strap eels, and the bigger cod.
febuary the same, with bigger fish.
march sees a spring run of codling, plus the resident fish.
april....the thornback rays move in after crab, the codling may even get better, plus bass start to move around.
may...bass, silver eel, still codling, rays get bigger with the females moving up.
june, bass, rays, flatties, conger patrol the mud warmed by the daytime.
july bass, rays, mullet, conger, and the dover sole make an apperance over the warm mud banks.
august..bass, conger, mullet, sole, flatties, ray. plus other species.
september...the first codling move up on the big spring tides, and feed on prawn around the bridges, sole are plentyfull, conger fattening up on whiting can be caught in inches of water.
october sees the codling plenty of them, sole, and still conger, whiting shoals pinch your bait.
november sees the cod getting fat, and the shore fishing is good, still conger about until first frosts.
december, the cod fishing at its height, hit the right tide with the right bait and you can catch a dozen or more fat codling.
all this because the water is full of silt and fish have no fear of light as they dont see it, only 2 inches down visability is nil, fish are in perpetual darkness, hence the baits tend to be big and juicy.
typical areas are magor, redwick, newport, cardiff foreshore and up to barry.
all year round fishing, does vary year on year, but probably the most consistant in the country.

The Kent coast has got to be tops for all types of fishing , specially from the shore, Dabs to Doggies, Rockling to Conger, Lea beach to storm beach, Estuary and creeks,oh and not forgetting piers, bait beds galore, blow lug, yellowtail ,the famous Dungie Black, king rag, white rag, rock worm, maddies,Crab, shellfish. We got the lot, including some of the top anglers in the country Alan Yates, Steve Allmark for instance..........need i go on. Kent, all the way bud.
anyone in south wales is, spoilt for chioce, year round. from swansea ,if the bay or the gower and its estuaries arnt enough, you can get to the severn bridge in 1 hour. or go west to pembroke in an hour. "HAPPY DAYS".
