Just wanted a few opinions on the best stocked fishery in the Glasgow / stirling area. i usually go to Smanswater up near stirling or Burnhouse Locahan. Both are good fiheries, with Swanswater producing different species (brown, blue, gold.) Wondered if i was missing a better fishery close to Bishopbriggs.

Well, where is your favourite fishery ?

newmills is ok, just outside lanark,

they have their own breeding facility onsite and stock the 5 ponds every day, sometimes more on weekends. doesnt take that long to get to and its family friendly with a cafe, tackle shop and toilets.

the best stocked waters are the ones full of wild brown trout ,far better to catch!

Hiya, Aint that a contradiction in terms?? "Stocked" with Wild brownies? :):)

What about Carron Valley, a great fishery, now stocked with Rainbows as well as Brownies... and not a million miles from Bishopbriggs...:)

I just joined my local freshwater club, which has its own loch, think its about 10 acres, it has fabulous Grade 1 fish from Ae fisheries, up to around 8lbs in weight,....Rainbows,Brown,Blue,and Brook trout....14 days for £80 a year..:) Then a tenner a day for any extra days..:)

Best stocked fishery i ever went to was Tweedale near Gifford in the Lammermuir Hill's. The fish averaged 5-6lb, and all went ballistic. 3lb was considered small. I caught 6 doubles one season, best just over 18lbs, and decided that trout fisheries were too monotonous, so i did something else. I've not been there for about 5 years, i guess it could have changed.

youre not too far away from Carbeth fishery. its not huge and neither are the fish, but theres some decent sport to be had with gold, blue, brown and rainbow trout all present.

if you do go there then youre close to a water owned by a small club who regularly stock with 1lb+ brownies and recently grown on fish have been landed up to 6-7lb.

obviously the members discourage poaching, but if you observe the etiquette* and behave yourself then you should be ok, just dont go at the weekend!

pm me for details.

* no powerbaiting. no fires. no keeping everything you catch.
