Fish for the pride of your area...........

This one is to be held on Sunday June 15th at Claxheugh on the River Wear. It will be held from 11am until 4pm. A £5 entry fee will be charged per angler and the full proceeds will go to breast cancer research.

This is a team event like the one we held on Steetley pier not long ago. At the moment we have five possible teams, the Mackems, the Geordies, the Poolies, the Smoggies and the Outsiders. More teams are welcome to join in but they must be area based, eg: Darlo's from Darlington and ideally have around four members per team. This will be a measure and release based match.

Get your names down and state which team you would like to fish for on the day:

:1a:The Geordies: Jarrow Viking, Bigpaul, Carver, Robz, Robzdad, Chloesdad, Medlar, Flattymaster, Micky, Rambo, Fibbsey

:wub:The Mackems: Capt Cod, Mick Cave, Dangler, Colin Green, Fatlad, Wilfy

:ph34r:The Poolies: Dabcatcher, Monkeyhinger, Baza, Whippyzippy, Bob C

:crazy:The Smoggies: thx kosh

:blink:The Outsiders: Jinxed by Jimmy, Twisty

The Rules:
1. One rod and reel to be used at any time.
2. Two hooks maximum.
3. The angler involved must hook and play the fish to the surface unaided, once a fish is on the surface, assistance by other anglers will be allowed.
4. An opposing team member must record your fish on the card provided.
5. The use of edible crab for bait is not allowed.

Scoring. All caught fish per team will be measured by length to the nearest centimetre and then recorded. Eels will be given 30cm regardless of size.

Undersize fish must be returned but you will still be able to claim centimetres for your catch.

The different teams fishing the competition will have their centimetres added up at the end of the comp, the total team centimetres will then be divided by the amount of anglers in each team.

Example: Total centimeters for the Geordies = 50cm, we then divide this amount by the number of Geordies in the team, lets say this is 5 persons. The Geordies score would be 10.

The Venue: Claxheugh, South Hylton, River Wear, Sunderland

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e199/v01/Claxheugh005Small.jpg

Directions: Assuming you are driving on the A19 as you arrive in Wearside take the A183 Chester road into Sunderland, at the first roundabout you come to take a left onto Hylton road, carry on for roughly 1 mile and on your left again take Hylton bank road, carry on down until you pass South Hylton metro station then take a right onto Pottery lane and follow until you come to the River Wear, this is Claxheugh. The parking symbol next to Weardale way on the map is where you want to be.

If it's okay with yourselves, I would like to donate any money raised to breast cancer research. A close family member of mine was hit with this awful disease at the young age of only 28, thankfully she has battled through and has just recently had her final operation after a couple of years of treatment and loads of worry for my family.

The outlook for her recovery looks great now :clap3: but too many people are hit by this disease and the sooner researchers find an answer to this problem the better. Many thanks J.V.:notworthy

oh yes dave is this spot any were near the pennywell est and if possible please could some one put details of were, what bait lol thanks

its very close to pennywell i,m sure and from the a19 you will have to go through there to get to it.

the only baits you will need are crab, ragworm and mackerel.

other baits such as smoked mackerel and kippers and frozen black lug are really only winter baits on the river.

dont panic if you cant get crab because rag tipped with mackerel can do very well.

squid is useless and lugworm will attract only crabs.

simple 2 hook flapper rigs are all thats needed with no more than 3oz leads.

I am looking forward to this one and I'm glad Kosh finally managed to get a lift. The pride of the Smoggies rests on your shoulders

I have quite a few peelers tucked away for this one and if anyone is going short well I hope to be able to give you a few. Realistically we can expect to catch Flounders and Eels but who knows what may turn up, the odd surprise can turn up anywhere. Get your flatty rigs made and may the best team win.

I am also looking for someone to volunteer to collect the charity money in on Sunday. send it off and then scan the reply letter from our chosen charity for all to see on W.S.F.

Let's hope we get some decent weather for it and I will see you all there around 11am. J.V.

Also does anyone have a reliable set of scales that they can bring? Mine have gone to the weigh house in the sky, lol.

The scales don't have to be the dogs doo daas so to speak, just something we can confirm that a fish weighs over 2lb with.

Many thanks. J.V.:victory:

Well due to current health probs some of may know about im ruled out for the comp this weekend.

Im gutted but the way i am at the min theres no way i can even hold a rod never mind cast it.

Maybe when the Doc finally get my meds right i will start getting out a bit.

But its not looking very positive at the min

Still trying to keep my chin up though.

Hope you all enjoy it and catch something for Me And Chloe

Stu

sorry to hear stu hope u get well and dont worry mate will try to catch need to only smoogie and if i win omg can u imagine the bragging rights for me and the look of dismay on the poolies, mackems and geordies

should be fun and look after yourself and chloe hopefully you should be ok for one of the other 2 matchs left

We are going to have a competition running at the same time for the longest flatfish caught. This will be £2 to enter and there will be a full payout to the lucky captor. If twenty anglers turn up and they all enter, the prize money will be £40.

probably worth mentioning dave.

this will an optional event as some dont like entering competitions for there own reasons and on top of the £5 entry that will be donated to charity.
