Treble hooks in fingers while kayaking!!

Has anyone experienced this? Had this happen in the boat while unhooking a plug caught bass, actually had one point in the thumb, and one in the middle finger, fusing them together; the bass was still attached too:bangin: Turned out to be a hospital job. Has anyone had this while kayaking? Could make paddling home quite interesting:headhurt:

not while kayaking but ed2 had a treble hook lodge in his ear canal while spinning on aber beach had to go to hospital to get it cut out i think ed was a bit embarressed about that one

In another thread,someone was asking about flatening the barbs on spinners/plugs seems like another good reason to use barbless! Obviously it would still hurt but at least you would be able to get them out easier?

Take a good quality set of side cutters with you, you might not be able to get the barbed bit out, but you at least you could release yourself.
Cut it of near to the eye, so if you have another pair of hands around they can pull it through:yucky:

I have been to hospital on more than one occaision, although no treble hooks involved - a single one can be painfull enough!!

If you do cut the hook, remember to leave enough to be able to get some grips on the end to assist in removal.
My first effort embedded in the knuckles in the palm of my hand, and it took some pulling out. Two pain killing injections (that hurt more than the hook going in), two A&E docters, pliers and a scalpol - turned out, that they could not push the hook through, so had to drag out out backwards, which turned out to be a bit more messey - still; got there in the end.

After teaching my son everything I know about fishing (not much) and constantly warning him to be careful of other people when casting, the inevitable finally happened at the end of last summer. Out in our little boat plugging - a big cast to reach those inviting rocks and ... aaargh - triple hook embedded in the eyebrow. Embarrasing thing was that it was my triple hook in his eyebrow. He was very manly and sporting about it though; didn't mention all the times I had pestered him to be careful and even suggested we continue fishing. This idea appealed to me but I suspect my wife would have killed us both when we got home. Tried an emergeny op in the boat with some rusty piers and a disgorger but finished up in A&E and they got it out with some slightly less rusty pliers and a pair of electricians side-cutters.

I am now very much more careful
