Around the 4th of July I am headed down to St. John in the US virgin islands and was wondering if anyone had some good info. I know there are some tarpon, snook, tuna, and kingfish in the area but Im not sure exactly where to go. Any info on location, lures/flys/bait, captains, or anything else would be appreciated. thanks.

Hi Braymr424
And firstly welcome to the forum.

Perhaps someone who has specific information on St John will respond but, in the interim, could I suggest a couple of sites that might well be of some use.

(Members of our Club - Sportfishing Club of the British Isles - have regularly fished the USVI but normally from Red Rock on St Thomas where they run out to the famed North Drop for the Blue Marlin. The 'classic' times to fish there are around the August and September 'full moon' dates. But I suspect 'one or two' of the game boats will be targeting the global 4th July Marlin tournament whilst you're down there.)

So the sites - http://www.tripadvisor.com - I identified the forum for St John and filtered based on 'fishing' - loads of posts - and also, in terms of fly fishing, try http://www.reel-time.com. Whilst the latter's strength is in the North East a lot of the 'long rodders' are widely travelled and I've found knowledgeable and helpful.

All the Very Best
Dave
