a few years ago there was a comp Essex Vs Kent which after all the name calling turned out to be a great idea as many friendships developed. As most of you lot are new to the site and have never fished a Essex Vs Kent match (its the taking part not the winning that matters) lets say we have another one.
Personally I would prefer the Kent coast as the fishing is better than the Essex coast and there is more chance of people catching fish. I would also suggets having it when the weather turns colder (has it actually turned hot yet?) as gives time to sort out a venue and basic rules e.g 1 or 2 rods how many hooks and what rules are we fishing to.
Sensible comments please

Was it that long ago? Thought it was only last year we had these meets.
Good idea though about having another one.
I'm up for it, but not Dungeness, lets make it somewhere with a bit more life like Ramsgate or the deal areas. Maybe Whitstable or Herne Bay (if it was Herne Bay we could all go round Whoppers palce for a barbie afterwards, get drunk and stay the night :drunk:)
Oh and Urly could get some more of those free fleeces done for the new guys:whistling

Ash said he will have another if Urly can sort it out.:roll1:
Just been studying Google Earth and we could look at Woolmer, Sandwich, Deal and a place called St Margarets(I think). How about we go for the return match again and if it is later in the year we will be able to use the St Osyth/Jaywick beaches in Essex, they are good winter marks or of course their is the new mark I have been looking at a bit further north if it is to be nearer the summer, trouble is we will have to blindfold everyone else and make them sign the official secrets act if we fish there :secret:

Great idea, as mentioned with all the new members, a get together would be a go.
Venue ideas for the Kent side, as Issy mentioned Deal/Walmer, Princess parade, hythe, Dengmarsh rather than Dungi. Even book a day or night on the Breakwater as long as we know the numbers, and then pick your peg out of the hat.
Date in September would produce well, and most of us would have taken our holidays by then.
Replies on post cards guys, worth a wizz

i'll be up for that jason.breakwater sounds a good bet if it's gonna be september.the beaches during daylight won't fish all that well then i don't think.
Firstly its nice to get some positive replies, and ideas on where to fish afterall Dunge isnt everybodys cup ot tea. Also do we want a fish and greet or keep it as essex vs Kent with anybody else wanting to fish (some of the South Coast might want to join in) as a third team or just get given a side to fish for.
keep the ideas coming and lets hear from some newbies.

Just keep it as an open WSF meet to any members
Ace idea Jason. I must admit that i haven't been to a SE meet for a while so deffo count me in. Hiow about an all nighter on dover breakwater? Loos, snack bar good chance of a few species, and possibly a venue a few haven't tried before. if enough people want to go i don't think it would be a problem to book it. I went down there for an SAS meet a year ago and it was tops. It depends on what people want though.
And if its at Herne bay you can all sleep in my summer house. It will be like a pack of sardines but im sure you would all fit. (That offer was a joke by the way lol)
Im up for it, fishing that is not the summerhouse sleepover thingy ;)
Deal or breakwater are my suggestions.

breakwater's gotta be the best place to fish in kent during september.
if it's cancelled coz of the weather there are plenty of other venue's to choose from.some right good un's at night too!
Me and Smutty Dan will be up for it depending on the date, we are up in Scotland with Davy Holt some time in september
If you are going to organise it Jason, instead of asking people what they would like and then we have weeks of tooing and froing about times and venues etc., why not just pick a date and venue and then just tell people when it is, I know some will probably not be able to make it but that goes for whenever is eventually decided anyway and makes the organiser's job a lot easier

Got to admit, no matter how good they are I hate peirs, it is a well known fact, I would personally prefer a daytime meet with a get together in the pub after, but !
Whoppers sounds great though, we could all kip in his summer house:drunk:
As has been said, pick a date and time post it and go for it, it will be up to the individual to make it, works just as well as trying to please everybody and end up like the last one with just six of us fishing. I had six on the Stinger hunt and all I did was post the time and place 5 days in advance. Makes life for the organiser very simple.
I also agree with the idea of just setting a date and not changing it. That is always what causes the meets to break down, the uncertainty of when it will be. If you want me to check tides for you then let me know what you are looking for and i'll check on Tide Wizard.
I am in Ireland from 12th -20th Sept but if it does not clash I will do my best to be there.
I`m in for some of that :hammer:

Count me in. I like fishing with the South East lads. I reckon you should lean heavily on those guys in the know on the Southern Kentish beaches to set a date/tide. Get the combination right and it could even be a WSF meet with a few fish!!! You've done it before at Dungie, but then Deal was a pouting fest. How about a night tide as well, as unless we are "blessed" with rough weather, it is more likely to have a few fish happening.

As a lot of people are saying fish the Breakwater, lets go for that if you could do a tide check for Saturdays in September (I presume it wont be a pout session) then I will pick a Saturday night tide.
Also as its a match there will be a small fee to cover prizes (biggest fish, biggest bag oddest fish) just a couple of quid each will do it with a 50% biggets fish (makes it fair for everybody) 30% biggest bag (no carrier bags included) and 20% oddest fish. We will also use the SAMF fspecies to points rule with all fish having a minimum size not just 18cms as that get silly with people counting schoolie bass for points.
I have now spoken you have a venue and you know its an all nighter.
Finally if you dont turn up I know where you live.

jass, i know it will mean some people can't make it, but, if doing the breakwater, do you really want 30 wsf's split up with another 50 anglers. book it for the saturday night, have the boat take you out when it brings the day-fishers off (saves the boat doash later and gets you a couple of extra hours) and have it pick you up the next morning when it brings people out again. simple, whole wall to choose from, not much more cost (few quid more), and a lot better as far as a 'meet' goes.
i've never yet fished the wall on a public day, and looking at the way everyone charges off the boat when we get picked up am, and how they fish ontop of each other, you'll not see me there for dust on a public day!
would be a goodun if ya did an overnighter, i'm sure daytime is ok, but public days just seem too busy for my liking, i fished with only ten people on one trip last year, was heaven, though i still crossed me mates lines each time the hounds picked up my crab and shot downtide!

13th Sept I presume we can fish the flood and the ebb then have a kip at low water.
So the date has now been set.
If somebody could speak to the correct authority for booking the breakwater for an all nighter and a time when the boat goes and comes back, oh and the price would be nice.
I was also thinking of everybody running off to the knuckle leaving us fatties to waddle to the nearest peg. So if we book the higher numbers pegs that would take away that disavantage and then have everybody picking their peg numbers.

Not to sure on that, obviously I want to make it fair as its more of a meet than a comp, but I dont want people fishing peg 1 and other fishing peg 200+ as that takes away the social aspect. I might go for a few pegs in the middle that are left empty if people want to fish next to someone.

As im organising it these are the rules
1) 2 rods 4 hooks max
2) SAMF fish to size rules
3) No mackeral
4) All eels are worth 30 points regardless of size
5) Picking your peg will be done by picking out of a hat with rotation by the teams e.g Team Essex, Team Kent, Team Essex etc or vise versa.
People wanting to fish next to someone will have to let me know before ther picking of pegs as only one person will pick for both people.
6) As its more of a social than a comp I still need some entrance fees for the biggest fish, most points, and most unusual fish so its a £5 if you want to enter these pools with 50% for biggest fish 30% for biggest bag and 20% for most unusual fish. If you dont want to enter the pools then you dont have to pay but your score chart will still count.
7) The outcome of the match will be total points scored by the team divided by the amount of people fishing for that team.

Jass,
re cost for an alnighter, i'm going to enquire when i go out on tuesday, si will onfirm for sure, but, last time we fished overnight, it worked out around £12 each for 24/25 of us. to make it simple, i decided everyone pay £15 and after settling up with the guys on the BW, the money was split as a prize fund.
to make it more interesting, and to avoid the usual 'top anglers' winning everything, it ensures that more people are likely to win something, and we figured, was more in the spirit of a meet, than just the usual 1 2 3 flat and round.
we decided to do prizes as follows...
1st place for most points (samf chart),
biggest round,
biggest flat.
most unusual species,
heaviest edible crustacean (crab, lobster, whelk, oyster etc),
most unlucky angler, this could be given for anything the organisers decided, and went to a guy who cast out, line wrapped around tip, cracked off and watched as his tip section head toward france!,
then a few such as... bass closest to 4lb 11oz, sole closest to 1lb 2oz, etc.
also prizes donated by various shops / angling businesses i approached for things such as 'biggest fish returned alive', etc.
just made the whole thing more of a fun thang, the competitiveness was still there, but not in such a way as people wouldn't help each other!
you're more than welcome to borrow the "Team extreme match meet format" if you like!

Cheers for the idea, im going with biggets fish first that makes its wide open for anybody, then biggest bag, its a good idea for biggest flat and biggest round and im doing most unusual fish decided by me (dont worry I wont win it even if I catch something unusual). There isn't going to be a lot of prize money as some people would prefer not to enter the match but just fish and meet people.

re prize money... that's why i charged a flat rate of £15, i think it worked out £150 for the wall / boat for the first 10 anglers, then after that £10 per angler, so rather than work it all out, i said £15 ofr everyone, and the remainder went into the pot. simple.
another big difference to us, was we collected money upfront and i popped it into the TE bank account, people will then show. as a TE meet, and since i had committed personally to booking the wall, there was no way i was gonna risk only 5 people turning up, and then having to stump up double! make people commit, it seems harsh, but that's life!
as a result, we had the most expensive, yet the biggest and best attended meet ever!

Also an alternative venue need sto be decided if the breakwater is a no go.

I may be interested....let me know the details??? :fish:
I may be interested....let me know the details??? :fish:
The plan is to fish the Breakwater overnight on the 13th Sept. Its essex vs kent using the SAMF fish the size chart. There is optional pools with 3 categories, biggest fish, biggest bag and most unusal fish (picked by me). As its going to be around £20 to fish the breakwater plus petrol and parking fees the pool money is not going to be a lot and as I have said its optional.
Now I need some help as I have no idea how much it is to hire the breakwater for an overnight session. I also need an alternative venue if its to windy for the boat to make the trip, and the venue has to be somewhere where the bait will catch fish. Finally once I find out how much it costs Im going to want the money ASAP and I need somebody to look after the money (im not looking after it due to money problems)
Any further update on this Jason? Me and my brother in law will deffo come along.
I have to ring the harbour board to sort out a price and I need somebody to hold the money as you are all going to have to pay upfront for the boat and the wall.
Whopper if you want to look after the money I would be happy.
Also an alternative venue if the wall is cancelled.

Fine i will hold the money. Get a set in stone date for the breakwater and a cost per person and i will put my paypal details up for people to send to money off to. All money has to be cleared before the date and if you havent got the money or cant do the date set, you will have to join us next time.

they are the people u need to speak to.alan edgerton is the bloke who'll sort it for u.do u need the number again?
Right lets have some attention.
I have just spoken to Alan Edginton from Dover Fishing Club and the 13th is a no go as its already booked up for the night. The options I then had was either the 20th with £5 for the boat and £7.50 for the pier if there is over 20 anglers, under 20 unders and its £5 boat and £100 per party.but there is no guarentee of a marshall being available.
The 2nd option is the 27th Sept which is £5 for the boat and £5 to fish the breakwater with the boat going out at 7pm and the 1st boat coming back at 5.30 with the 2nd boat coming back at 8am. The 27th is open to the public so there is no guarentee of getting certain pegs but it will be marshalled on that night.
Of the 2 choices I have picked the 2nd for the following reasons
1) You don't have to find the money beforehand which saves the headache of somebody keeping the money.
2) Longer fishing time as there would only be 1 boat at 5.30 to pick you up.
3) Its cheaper
So to round it up the date of the match is 27th Sept with the boat going out at 7pm. All I need now is a list of people who are up for it.

The good thing is that I don't have to pencil anybody in or collect any money all you have to do is turn up.
What I would like is the SAMF fish to size list for the comp. I was also thinking of having a max of 3 fish per species (incase it becomes a pout or doggie session ((thats doggie not dogging Ron))
