Hi guys just a quick one regards fishing in the red sea, taking my spinning rod and a few different lures, will these be ok, just to let you know were not in a marine park were right down south. Would it be worth trying boat fishing as well?

I've never fished there, but if I was you i'd put in three or four 1oz leads, some ssg shot, and a couple of packets of hooks. They wont add much extra weight, but they will give you a few more options.

Hi mate I've been fishing for many years in the mexican caribean sea and I always use rapalas and yozury lures in white/red,makarel colors and it has work very good for me because of the water color.

as kager said is better if you take a few leads and hooks because if you don't know and it's your first time there sometimes is difficult to find fishing gear.

I hope this help
Jorge

Well that really depends on where in the red sea u are fishing, i was brought up and raised at the red sea port of Jeddah, and have basically fished tehre for years now...but what you need to do is specifiy what location and the type of groundur planning to cover with your spinners :)

you should bear this in mind. at the edge of the sea in many parts of the red sea you have dead coral in about 6 inches of water, this can extend out from a few to 20 or 30 metres, then it drops off where the live coral and then the sea. the sea is either a 1000m drop off or it dips down to a sand bank or coal garden or something in betwen.

Afraz, it was great to find a contact from the area. I am new to the forum, currently in Canada but it looks like we may be relocating to a site about an hour north of you (Thuwal)

I have researched the internet quote a bit and cannot find much on fishing the area. I know much of the reef near Thuwal is a new marine park, hopefull we have some fishing not to far, I will have use of a boat or will buy one as soon as possible once we get settled in. I have already purchased the charts for the area and between Jeddah and Thuwal it looks like there is over 500 square miles of reef.

Do we need a license for pleasure fishing? (you do in Canada) Do you know how far we have to boat to get away from the marine park reserve?

I have good freshwater rods for fish from 1 pound to 50+ (Musky rods) and plan to get some saltwater reels so I don't corrode my good nass reels. Any other advice you can offer? Most of my tackle is for bass so I plan to stock up before leaving.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Mark
