never fished cyprus but have fished in th med and adriatic a few times nothing too great but if you fish at night might have some larger fish other than that best bet is to treat it like coarse fishing and u may have some interesting species wrasses etc small bits of fish under a casting bubble on 12 or 16 hook can b good for small preditors

I have not fished Cyprus but I know there are a couple of charter boats that go from Limassol - typically only found out day I was flying home on the third trip to the island!

ITs july and aug for the tuna fishing

the only time its good fishing is when the nets bust on the fish farms
then it bass and guithead bream every cast but its combat fishing.

don't bother with cyprus ... shore fishing is in the harbour for whitebait and 20-30 miles out on a boat for tuna .... if youve got dynamite... good luck

My dad is from Cyprus originaly, you mention Dynamite, well when he was a kid living near Famagusta he used to fish with Dynamite.

He used a bucket type thing with a peice of glass at the bottom so he could look under the water to see the fish, he would then put the detonator into the Dynamite, he describes it as a jelly like substance, well infact he calles it gelignite.

After the detonator is inserted its then lit and thrown in the water, apparently the fuses where water proof somehow.

Anyway when the Dynamite went off it took a few seconds for the stunned fish to rise to the surface. He would then go and collect all the fish. All in all a very effective way of fishing, remember he was fishing for food not sport.

He gave up after one of his close friends blew both of his legs off trying to retreive a fuse that didnt detonate. Not a good idea, he paid the price.

My dad tells me that even when he threw the Dynamite real far, when it went off it actually paralyzes you for a few seconds if you where stood in the water at the time of detonation.

Bloody scary if you ask me.

Just thought I would share that little story with you.

As for fishing in Cyprus, well my uncle fishes off the shore near Paphos every morning for his lunch, what he catches are quite small, not big at all, but they are very very tasty.

Cheers all

Hiya, Well I'm back, and forgot all about this thread. We were at Amathus, about 6k to the east of Limmassol, as you say, there were anglers out, but were only catching small "mullet" I think......not worth the effort, tho' I did take a travel rod, It wasnt used. I did manage to find a Tackle shop on the front in Limassol, and got some gear, which was not used either. the guy in the shop gave me a couple of numbers for charter boats....but I had been told by a couple of guys that it wasnt very good either.
Sorry for a rubbish report, but...tho' its a great island, I dont think the fishing is up to much . :(
