England v Wales 7. Abbotsbury.Sunday 28th Sept

The venue for Match 7 of England v Wales will be held on the beach at

ABBOTSBURY.

On

Sunday 28th September 2008.

Fishing from 10am till 4pm.

This is a light hearted, fiercely competitive, competition open to all ages and gender. (Even Steven Wood)

All monies raised, by collection and raffle, will be in aid of Bristol Royal Childrens Hospital & Ronald McDonalds House for parents with sick children.

There’s a small list of rules somewhere.. I’ll sort them out later.

Now is the time for all English men, woman and children to get your name down on the list below to represent your country, fishing against the invading Welsh army, and help boost the funds for a very worthy cause.

There's also a 'magnificent' TROPHY to be won.

Further details maps/parking/rules etc will follow.

I think the Rulesare clear and concise and suitable for the venue.
I have to wonder about the ban on Whiting mind? anyone who manages to take one of them in broad daylight from that beach deserves to win. mind you I am after a different quarry on that day. I really cannot wait for september now.

Sorry Andy I need to make this clear. that rig was built by me and There are no hooks on it.
it is a split rig extension designed to replace a float and put a rig on the surface. the two snoods you see on the picture are NOT built into that split rig, the rig is clipped at one end of the split, the lead at the other and when it hits the water the split expands to 3 times the length.

ten ft split rig
3.5oz lead.
13 ft when you cast it and 33ft when it hits the water. simple way of holding a 2 hook rig on the surface on a surf beach
we make them anything from 1ft when cast to give 3ft when out right up to 15ft.

Footpath? Do you mean the 20yrds of slightly more compressed shingle or the grass fields crossed with several barbed wire fences that are out of bounds anyway till October? Reg will conduct the raffle in the car park before and after the Comp.

Also (hopefully) sorting a burger van for the 2.30am finish time..& a few hundred cans of beer for sale on the cheap....

listen i've attended every match in these comps to date for me sand point was the hardest to get to.and god willing i'll get to the mark on this one as well.but try i will 4sure .as for racing pat up there **** that i have a disabled wife to get back to in one piece as well so as for making it a race forget it.chesil yes fish the comp yes trek to the teeth yes but race up nope i'll most prob be trekking up with roger ie in our own time..

really, to be ensuring everyones safety.
the beach should not be used if the wind is greater than force 3 with a sth/sth west.
Preston beach in these wind conditions will be a safer option and a pleasure for all to fish.
I think I spoke to Pat about this and if Andy or Pat need info I am more than happy
but safety really does need to come first on chesil

Preston beach in these wind conditions will be a safer option and a pleasure for all to fish.

As I've said mate, it'll be a decision made close to the day and I'll go with your assessment of the conditions.

Clarification please.
A lot of people on linked threads are setting up on the beach the day before, am i right in thinking this is ok?

I think that due to people arriving the day before and camping etc,then I can't see a problem with anyone setting up wherever and whenever they want. I believe there's quite a few fishing on the Saturday.

We'll need us all to meet in the car park for a 'meet and greet' and to issue cards to record your catch lengths.

After that, we'll disperse to any area of the beach that takes our fancy.

Any exception to this can be discussed with Andy( Welsh Cpt.) and myself before the day.

Don't fish at the waters edge.... (a) it'll bite ya... (b)the bank will restrict your cast.

Stand and cast from the top of the bank for everyones sake please.

Just returned from the venue the place is alive with fish!!!

Still loads of mackie about and some big bass chasing them. Had loads of doggies and a few plaice looks good for your meet.

The only nets I could see where opposite the walk way at abbotsbury but they were a long way out if anybody gets a bait a 1/3rd of the way to then please give me a casting lesson

Some final points to add before this friendly WSF meet between England and Wales.

We encourage “Catch and release”…… unless for the pot.

Treat all fish in a humane manner.

Keep only fish that meet local minimum size limits. http://www.sea-fishing.org/nfsa-size-limits.html

Could we try and allow the ‘less able to negotiate the pebbles’ the areas immediately in front of the car park.

Stay as clear of the waters edge as possible. It IS dangerous.

Respect the next anglers’ space.

Be aware of other beach users when casting etc.

Remember… you’re representing your country and the W.S.F. family, make
them both proud… NO LITTER….not even a fag packet.

Meet rules;

Length counts. Measure and release any size of fish, even the smallest could be the difference between winning and losing.

Recording cards will be issued in the car park, bring a pen or pencil and a measuring device.Record your catch measurements in centimetres, no verification needed.(we trust your honesty)

Mackerel do not count.

Fishing from 10 am till 4 pm. Ensure your score card is presented to your Cpt (or his representative) as soon as possible after the finish.

The ‘Alan Wright/Dai English’ Trophy will be presented to the angler catching the longest fish (this is under discussion with the captains and might yet be awarded to the ‘best’ fish)

Other points;

Take the time to introduce yourself to any other members. These Meets were formed for that purpose.

Drive safely too and from the meet. Long distances are involved, take a break.

Bring your suntan lotion, take loads of pictures, give all your spare money to The Bristol Childrens Hospital for Sick Children and please, please, enjoy the day.

er, We lost. got goofed by 2m, Sally FCR won best fish trophy, MartynG won a rig wallet and a packet of baby wipes. Lisa got a Metalica t shirt for her birthday. but basically we lost. very good turnout by the welsh and we were missing some anglers who thought the comp boundery was chesil cove!
but the weigh in and raffle/Banter was bloody good fun.

A strong Welsh contingent tipped up at the car park at first light and by 9.30, with the sun burning through the early morning fog that had hampered their long journeys, their numbers totalled nearly 35.
A very impressive number , a testament to team spirit,fundraising generosity and a burning desire to beat the English team in their own backyard.
The chance to fish such a spectacular venue helped, of course.

Not to be outdone, our numbers to greet them, steadily grew into the 40’s.

After some great banter and meetings of old friends,putting faces to forum names etc,and with score cards and pencils in hand, under a cloudless sky and a hot sun, everyone decamped to their own section of this immense stretch of shingle.

Very unfortunately, my kit was transported to the furthest end of the beach ( a Welshman was involved) which left myself,Brickie and our missus’ a 2 mile stroll
along the shingle, selling raffle tickets as we went.

Probably the most enjoyable days fishing and p*** taking I’ve ever had, followed.
Voodoo Busman, Ken Davidson,Wilba,MrsBrickie,Brickie,my missus,Blankerman and Coco ‘n’ Queenie (and that b****** dog) all fished in a tight area.
We played musical chairs/pass the parcel with the float rods all day, dodging and casting over and under each other like a line of chorus girls.

The raffle was amazing, with tables heaving under the weight of prizes many and varied.
The generousity of everyone matched the occasion.
I felt privelidged to be involved with every man and woman who took time and effort just to get there, and then give so generously to the Bristol Childrens Hospital.

The total raised for the hospital was £572.31p. ( and a Welsh counterfeit 10p coin):)

I’d like to personally thank everyone who contributed in monetary,donation and organisational assistance, but I can’t, there’s too many of you. So if I don’t mention your name please don’t think I’ve forgot you I haven’t.

Everyone who chipped in on the day with caps,bottles,rods,reels,and all manner of goodies from both teams.
Basspopper, with the largest assortment of tackle.line,bags,reels,dvd’s and rigs etc I’ve seen, outside a tackle shop.
