ABBOTSBURY.

Sunday 28th September 2008.

Fishing from 10am till 4pm.

This is a light hearted, fiercely competitive, competition open to all ages and gender. (Even Steven Wood)

All monies raised, by collection and raffle, will be in aid of Bristol Royal Childrens Hospital & Ronald McDonalds House for parents with sick children.

There’s a small list of rules somewhere.. I’ll sort them out later.

Now is the time for all English men, woman and children to get your name down on the list below to represent your country, fishing against the invading Welsh army, and help boost the funds for a very worthy cause.

There's also a 'magnificent' TROPHY to be won.

Hi Pat, you seem to have a good turn out but was just wondering is there room for one more in the mighty England side (mind you, when you see me perform you'll probably wish I was in the welsh team ha ha). Gona make a long weekend of it and stop over in Weymouth with the wife, in fact she said she'll even come down to Chesil and sit with me for the whole 6 hour match (I'm really looking forward to that!). (I'm sure I can talk her out of it). Anyone know a decent hotel in Weymouth town centre with car parking ? Cheers Harry

Just over two weeks to go now before the England v Wales friendly meet at Abbotsbury......

This is promising to be the biggest and best yet, judging by experience I can see well over 150 anglers taking part on the day.

Plenty of time yet to get your names down for this one..... just post your interest and I'll add you to the team.

At the centre of this meet is the fund raising effort for The Bristol Children's Hospital.. an excellent cause for all the monies raised.

'Rog Voodoo' is the man tasked with the most important part of this fund raising, by organising and running the raffle.

You may have spotted some of the prizes on offer generously donated by Basspopper aka Jake, he's put together a terrific amount of fishing tackle ( check out the pictures )

Steve W and his good lady have secured over 40 items of womans and baby toiletries donated by Johnson and Johnson of Caerphilly.(pictures to follow)

Others have contributed camera's etc.. I'll ask Rog Voodoo to start a Donation/Prize thread so everyone who kindly donates anything will be recognised.

If your names already on the sticky list try to donate anything you can please, from a packet of hooks to a Maserati, it doesn't matter how small.. every little will make a difference to the kiddies in the hospital.

Thanks to everyone making the effort to make this the 'Mother of all Meets'..Pat.

A strong Welsh contingent tipped up at the car park at first light and by 9.30, with the sun burning through the early morning fog that had hampered their long journeys, their numbers totalled nearly 35.
A very impressive number , a testament to team spirit,fundraising generosity and a burning desire to beat the English team in their own backyard.
The chance to fish such a spectacular venue helped, of course.

Not to be outdone, our numbers to greet them, steadily grew into the 40’s.

After some great banter and meetings of old friends,putting faces to forum names etc,and with score cards and pencils in hand, under a cloudless sky and a hot sun, everyone decamped to their own section of this immense stretch of shingle.

Very unfortunately, my kit was transported to the furthest end of the beach ( a Welshman was involved) which left myself,Brickie and our missus’ a 2 mile stroll
along the shingle, selling raffle tickets as we went.

Probably the most enjoyable days fishing and p*** taking I’ve ever had, followed.
Voodoo Busman, Ken Davidson,Wilba,MrsBrickie,Brickie,my missus,Blankerman and Coco ‘n’ Queenie (and that b****** dog) all fished in a tight area.
We played musical chairs/pass the parcel with the float rods all day, dodging and casting over and under each other like a line of chorus girls.

The raffle was amazing, with tables heaving under the weight of prizes many and varied.
The generousity of everyone matched the occasion.
I felt privelidged to be involved with every man and woman who took time and effort just to get there, and then give so generously to the Bristol Childrens Hospital.

The total raised for the hospital was £572.31p. ( and a Welsh counterfeit 10p coin):)

I’d like to personally thank everyone who contributed in monetary,donation and organisational assistance, but I can’t, there’s too many of you. So if I don’t mention your name please don’t think I’ve forgot you I haven’t.

Everyone who chipped in on the day with caps,bottles,rods,reels,and all manner of goodies from both teams.
Basspopper, with the largest assortment of tackle.line,bags,reels,dvd’s and rigs etc I’ve seen, outside a tackle shop.

You…. Yes you, I haven’t forgotten you. ( me mum taught me that so no-one feels left out)
