I'm planning to fish off Deal beach, north of the pier late January. What should I hope to catch, what is the best bait, and have you any advice on the best state of the tide to fish on. It'll be an evening fish.

i would use a squid and lug or rag cocktail maybe on a pulley rig.
you might have a chance of codling (4lb+) and whiting. there will proberly be pouting. if you are lucky you might catch a doggy or two.
