Fish for the pride of your area and help a deserving cause. This one will be in aid of the Charity the Rainbow Trust http://www.rainbowtrust.org.uk/ recommended by forum member Nicky, I defy you to read this without shedding a few tears........
http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/north-east-news/todays-evening-chronicle/2008/08/05/family-s-grief-after-losing-daughter-to-cancer-72703-21467491/
The match will be held at The Mesh, T.S. Kelly Sea Cadets, Hebburn on Sunday, September 21st from 1pm to 5pm.
Meet opposite Hebburn Marina boatyard from 12pm to 12.30pm for registration. This will be a measure and release match, fish to be measured and recorded must meet NFSA size limits. All Eels caught will be scored at 30cms. Two hooks maximum, children under the age of Sixteen must be accompanied by an adult.
Teams will be made up of 5 persons, centimetres caught will then be divided by 5, giving the team total.
As I have had to put a limit on the number of anglers attending this one due to venue size, twenty anglers will be invited to this one on a first come first served basis, an entry fee of £10 will be charged plus a £2 option for the longest flatfish/fish caught (Eels don't count). All money raised from the entry fee of £10 will go to the Rainbow trust.
Those I have at the moment are:
The Mackems: Capt Cod, Dangler, Mick Cave, Wilfy?, Fen, Colin Green.
The Geordies: Nicky, Jarrow Viking, Gary, Medlar, Weightmaker?, Robz, Robzdad, Danny Tee, Davey. The Geordies will be split into two teams on the day by picking names from a hat.
The Poolies: Baza, Bob C, Dabcatcher, Monkeyhinger, Whippyzippy
Directions:
The black dot is the area at Hebburn you need to get to, only half a mile from Hebburn town centre and Metro Station.

A closer look, P is for parking, F for fishing. There are only a couple of hundred yards between these two places, I will run you all along in the car.

The fishing spot, remember you will need a tripod and a little care as there are no railings. Boots are a good choice as the ground is stoney, mixed with the odd muddy patch.

it looks very much like the poolies are out of this one.
at our club meeting we found out that we also have an inter club team comp on the same date, also on the tyne.
our A team is the same one that fishes in these charity events.
obviously with the exception of ... bob c.
we are also in top position in this comp and this is the final match. so it has given us a dilema. because this interclub league is relatively new i personally feel it wouldnt be right to drop out.
should circustances or dates change between now and the date for either event then i,m sure we will be straight back.
sorry and good luck.

It looks like the Poolies are out of this one, any suggestions to make up numbers?
We need 20 anglers in total. 10 Mackems versus 10 Geordies would be ideal. If you still fancy it Bob C you could possibly become an honorary Mackem for the day.

oh what dilemma dave just have a geordie vs mackems match and arrange a new match at few weeks after for the geordie vs mackem vs poolies vs smoogies this will give you chance to find a new venue for all of us to fish mate i dont mind coming up for this as i dont have anything set plus i am sure the other lads wont mind, just a bit more money for charity and with it getting closer to cod season might have a better chance of fish

A Durham team would be very welcome, msk. Get in touch for the next meet and we will sort something out.
I am going to put together a North East W.S.F. shore competition during the Winter, possibly held on a Durham beach like Horden, with a trophy for the captor of the heaviest fish and a cash prize for the most centimetres caught. Details to come soon.

We are two Geordies down possibly three and the Mackems may be a man short also. If anyone fancies joining the Geordies or Mackems there are a couple of spare places.

the poolies have never fished this spot either but i will be making a few calls this week and doing some homework.:secret:
crab wont be a problem for us though.
dave just a sugestion......... if some teams cannot make the numbers up, and even we could end up in the same position before the weekend. i would let teams fish with lower numbers if they must but each teams score is devided by 5
allow each team to also add an extra score for there missing man but this can only be the same as there lowest score.
example..
4 fish and a team is a man down.
score for that team.
1. 230cm
2. 180cm
3. 170cm
4. 150cm
the missing man would score...150cm and the teams total will be divided by 5 as normal.
should the team be 2 people short then the missing 2 would also get the same as the lowest result.
should anyone on the team blank then the missing man would also blank.

Wilfy could be doubtful for this one Mick. Bring another Mackem if you can.
You will mainly catch Flounders, Eels and possibly Whiting at this mark. A two hook size 2 rig is ideal baited with peeler. The Flounder tend to be caught from 10yds out to 50 yds out, Whiting and Eels seem to prefer the deeper water around 80yds out. A longer cast into the deep water may even catch you the odd Codling and Coalfish if there about.
I am worried that the huge amount of rainwater may give us poor fishing though but as this ones for charity, I think we should just go for it.
I am going to have a couple of hours fishing down there this week to see what's about. Like I say though the very heavy rains that we have had may spoil the fishing, however local catch reports are stating that there are still fish in the river.
It's not the most glamorous of locations at all but on it's day throws up excellent bags of big Flounder and Eel.
I will look at using that scoring method Dabcatcher, nice one
Fingers crossed

Just to add to that, peeler may be scarce for most at the moment but you won't need a lot during this match. If you can get a hold of ten to fifteen good sized ones that will be more than enough bait.
Remember you will need a rod stand.
Also you will be very unlucky to lose any gear here, the ground is fairly snag free but there is a row of tyre crab traps very close in, just down the side in fact. You may need grip leads when the tide starts flooding .

catching fish is only a bonus to a good day out.
i dont think theres anymore serious rain forcast this week dave so the fishing should be ok. as you say even with the weather we have had theres still been fish caught, even from well up the river.
dave will you be able to supply a fish size chart because there seems to be lots of variations for some species. if we have one supplied then thats what we fish to.

Like Dabcatcher says, it looks like we are going to be blessed with some good weather during the match on Sunday. The sun may even shine :sun:
I have had a look down today at Hebburn and the good news is that the river is finally starting to clear up after all that heavy rain. The crabs are slowly beginning to peel again to, which is always a good sign. :fishing:
I am having a couple of hours fishing there tomorrow to see if anything is biting, will report back tomorrow evening, and fingers crossed the fish will decide to turn up on the day for us all. We are also still two Gerordies short if anyone with black and white blood fancies it.
