Um ... brinkmanship Paul! If you try a Search this Forum from the Caribbean forum's home page using Cancun you'll identify a reasonable number of earlier threads. That might prove some leads. If not, given the limited time you have try PM-ing those who've previously visited the area.

Another forum worth looking at posts on is that on http://www.tripadvisor.com. Also the reports on http://www.mexfish.com/ might help identify what’s being caught at the moment, although I suspect that much of the focus there will be on offshore action.

Hi Paul,,,I'm from Playa del carmen that's just 45min from cancun,,,

I know that there are some lagoons to try some spinning and fly fishing, but I recomend you to go to Puerto morelos(25min from cancun) or Playa del carmen ,you can rent a small boat for £75 to £80(4 hours).

I hope that you have time to read this.

Jorge

Hi,

I was in cancun july 06 was out on two seperate boats and had baracuda to 40lb and tuna to just under 25lb but the best part was when we decided to buy a cheap rod and reel and try from the shore....i landed a 7lb baracuda from the small wooden jetty at the beach right at the door of my hotel (blue bay club) just as the sun was going down the water had noone init and thats when we seen all the bait fish getting chased right up to basically the sand. i would advise you to take some traces that pike fisherman would use with maybe size 8 trebles or just make up a trace yourself with say 2/0 pennels on it with trace wire of about 25lb fish this under the float maybe a bubble, and you can get some uncooked sardines or small fish easily from either your chef in the hotel (we did) or just go to one of the shops......hope all goes well and i look forward to your report!!

Ps the baracuda will test your outfit and how big you an smile to the limit.

Tight lines

A friend of mine is over there for xmas and is wondering if there is any shore spinning/plugging to be had and if he should take a fly rod? Any tips would be most appreciated.
