View Full Version : Orford all nighter
With reports of some decent cod coming from Orford I was wondering if people would be interested in an all night session. This will not be a comp or a charity event but a simple all night fish for the cod.
I was thinking of arranging it after the dengemarsh meet (say 2nd saturday in November) and fish the Narrows as it wouldn't be fair on some people fishing the Crouch due to the long walk over shingle and the risk of tackle loss.

Its worth it if Pete says the Crouch is fishing better....!! I wont commit to this J, but its not impossible I might come and play.

How knackered were we all when we done that walk. And lets remember some members of WSF have medical conditions or are just not up to that sort of walk (this is not meant to be insulting).

I might be interested... have provisionally arrange anothe rtrip but it's 50/50 at the mo. If that doesn't go ahead I would like to come. I come from Basildon so perhaps we could pop up there together. Will let you know nearer the time if that's OK? Sorry I can't commit yet 100%

PS How long a walk is it?

The walk across at the narrows is not too far, as jassyfa said, not many snags down there either. i find it fishes best on the flood tide. Catch fish at all distances, can over cast some nights.
Helps to have some form of shelter though if doing an all nighter, i take empty polythene bags, fill with stones of the beach to use as weights to hold down shelter. Dont forget to take all rubbish home with you.
You can collect coal of the beach & have a small fire to cook over.

the narrows about a 5 minute walk ober shingle to the beach then walk along the beach in either direction until you get a spot you want to fish. The other option at the Narrows is to fish the river and don't walk anywhere when you get off the boat. You stand a chance of catching codling butr not in the same weight bracket as you do from the beach.
The crouch around a 20-25 minute walk over shingle. any sort of trolly or wheelbarrow stands a good chance of gettin gstuck in the shingle. Also you dont walk stright across you have to aim at least 200-250 yards to the left or the right of the drop of point. Also the river is less productive as you have to cast over sloppy mud at low tide.
Why bother night fishing, I tend to find the monday after the big set of tides when everyone has been groundbaiting the weekend, just as good if not better.

Good point but as its a meet most people on here get the weekends off and have to work Monday.
Just thought I would remain you lot about this. Although most of you dont give a toss and I dont know why I bother to try and organise a meet when most of the kent lot can't be ar**d to make an effort to fish out of their county.
Actually F**K it, I will fish by myself for now on.
