The only of our members who've shore fished that area is I think Kingfish81. Not certain of his whereabouts at the moment though. You could try PM-ing him. In addition might is perhaps be worth contacting one of the local Clubs? There's a list of them on this url - http://www.fishnet.com.au/clubs/clubsqld.html. Many have e-mail addresses recorded.
There’s also, through the Google search engine, reference to a site - www.shorefishingaustralia.com.au coming up. There’s even an image of its home page on this link - http://www.fishingtackleshop.com.au/australian-fishing-links.htm - not that I can link to it currently! That sounds promising.
One way or another though be very careful of those BIG ‘salties’ potentially on both the remoter beaches and river estuaries. They can creep undetected into remarkably shallow water.

spawny g*t...!! Watch Rex Hunt re-runs. Or if you want I can put you in touch with an English fishing journalist who is working out in the North, but has fished already all around. PM me for his e-mail address.
Any crabbies still around?

I used to live in Cairns.
But over 40 years ago!
Fishing off the end of the piers was productive.
Better down the creeks amongst the mangroves, as they filled with the incoming tide.
(But as the air settled at dusk, the light began to fade, and the fish really came on the feed, it was only iron will that kept us there as the mossies and sandflies descended!)
Beaches outside of Cairns were also worth fishing.
(Using a handline at low-tide, my then wife claimed to have a fish on and asked for help whereas I could see that she was just snagged. I just laughed as she put the line over her shoulder and struggled up the beach. My laughter died as a decent sized sandshark emerged from the water!)
Shore fishing bait was green (raw) prawns, purchased in half pound frozen packs from the local tackle shop, or pippies (small clams) chased from the waves as the surf rolled them out of the sand (you needed to be quick as they would rebury themselves fast).

I don't know, I wasn't there and my woman probably only took that picture to send me green with envy.
