Hi All

The people interested in coming to WA to fish should have a look at the new TV shows from local fishing celebrity Steve Correia. Some great tips on how to catch Samsonfish, Mahi Mahi, WA Dhufish and lots of others.

Tight lines all :)

Being fishing for samsons off Freemantle, Western Australia, for some years now. Fantastic fishing and samsons are strong pullers. Caught all samsons by jigging:showoff:

Yea, jigging for sambos off Freo takes some beating. This 1 was caught in 110m & came in around 50kg. Twas a beast. Interested; Al on Shikari Charters. And of course, this fish was tagged and released.

Been going for the past 5 years John, usually Jan or Feb though.

You could try these:http://www.millscharters.com.au/

or these guys:http://www.bluejuicecharters.com.au/

Both based in :http://www.hillarysboatharbour.com.au/

I've been with Mills about a dozen times & can't fault them.

Plenty of beaches & harbours for you to have a dabble @ aswell.

Hope it helps.

Is Little Trevor still skippering out of Hillarys ?

Heard a rumour he was off to Mandurah. Top boat, top skipper and boy does he work hard for his customers. Also cooks a mean snag and chicken !

Some great shore fishing to be had up around Yanchep Lagoon. Yanchep is about 1hr drive north of Perth. 15 mins south of Yanchep is Pipidinny Rd. If you've hired a 4wd you can get over some easy dunes n onto the beach. Tailor, sharks, mulloway and yes, sting rays are the mainstay, unless you are just lokking for herring n whiting (to use as bait that night.....).

From Yanchep, 5 mins to the north is Two Rocks. From there you can get back onto some dune tracks and then you've got 100km of beaches (deserted for the most part) to explore. If your going onto the dunes n beaches, dont forget to take a compressor to pump yr tyres back up. The Moore River at Gilderton (35km north of Yanchep) is great for black bream, and if the river has busted thru (rare) some awesome beach fishing to be had.

All the best with it.

Jamie,
Shore fishing round Perth can be pretty good if you pick your spots. Like any metro area, it is more than a wee bit overfished. Saying that but, an hours drive north (or to a lesser extent south) puts you on some empty reef lined beaches.

Species you'll encounter range from whiting, herring, tarwhine, thru to tailor, mulloway, sharks. Also never far from your hooks will be stingrays n eagle rays. Round easter (give or take a few weeks) you get the salmon run. These aren't what you know as salmon. They are related to herring. Awesome sport fish. When they are running, good fun to be had nailing them on metal slices.

Baits. Pretty much all I ever use is are mulies (WA pilchards) on gang hooks for the tailor, salmon, mulloway. Other baits would be squid, prawns and strip baits. I often take my missus fishing with me; she catches the herring and whiting. Whiting and herring make excellent live baits and you cant get much better than strips of fresh herring for any number of species.

All the best with your move.

Any tuna [skippys, longtail, etc] and Spanish macs caught from WA shore Omsk?

Tuna from the shore..... Rare but is possible. Round Perth you can get bonito off the Freo rock walls.

Off the back of the reef at Yanchep there is the chance of bonito & skipjack. Get up and on the reef at the crack of dawn n try casting metal slices along the face of the reef. Watch the swell and the big holes but; not for the faint hearted.....

Spaniards off the shore even rarer. Unless you get up to the cliffs round Steep Point or Quobba.
