Hi Folks.

I am a newcomer to this forum and would appreciate some advice. Yesterday I was conned into a doctor's surgery for what I believed was a "consultation" about travel to Gambia. In fact the nurse was fully armed with hyperdermic syringes that she proceeded to use with great enthusiasm. As my wife was present I couldn't escape without looking a complete wimp. The long and the short of it is that as I have had most of the jabs I might as well go now.

This is a holiday for my wife and me but I might as well find a hotel where there is good fishing near by as not.

Question 1. Where is the best place to stay to find fishing near by? Question 2. Can boats be hired and if so how expensive are they? Question 3. Is it worth hiring a car in Gambia or can public transport be relied on?
Question 4. Is a telescopic beachcaster good enough to cast with? Mine is not very substantial and its range is very limited.
I have never been to Africa before so any tips would be welcomed.

TIA for any info.

Hi Lobsterpot, merry christmas.
I hope to be able to answer some of your questions, also if you PM your email address think i still a afct sheet for the Gambia as i used to arrange fishing trips there.

1 All the hotels are along the coast, so you can beach fish in front of virtually every hotel.
I would suggest you book 4* or better, try looking in the "Gambia Experience" brochure.

2 The best place to get foishing boats is at "Denton bridge" try to book with "Mark Longster" as he is English and in my opinion the best there.
I think the price is about £40 each per day inc bait and tacklebut that was a couple of years ago ( i will try and find his website address).

3 there are no cars to hire to the best of my knowledge and you would not want to drive there anyway, trust me.
Cabs are pleniful and very cheap, as are fags, Glllete Mach 3 razor blades, if you use these they were about a third of the price they are in England.

I hope this helps you and if i can find Marks website address i will post it here.

PS if you Meet Mark give him my regards and tell him i am now living in Portugal.
