The long awaited show down between the big guns in Cornwall and the Little guns of Dorset and the Baby guns of Wales meet up for the Bass Show Down:boxing: in a secret location somewhere on the Dorset coast this friday at 6.30am(if they show up),:uhuh: The Grand Price of £60 and the Bragging Rights,:clap2: and of course my Very god friend Mark having to buy a TENRYU when he loses bless him,(hes only small bless him),:yahoo: Dont worry Pugs and Runs i will think of something for u to mate lol,:yeah:

I reckon, based upon all the warm and friendly banter that goes on here that....

A Bass lure angling league between counties/countries wouldn't be amiss.

I wonder if that could work with a series of limited fixtures ?

The Channel Islands or Jersey fixture could always run alongside the Bass Festival but when would you blokes auggest your best fishing would be to run your leg of any such event ?

I suppose we'd all be fighting for the tag "red team" though... LOL

Little bit disappointed that you are lot are running scared with only £60 to the winner. I know us taffs have already fished the venue last Friday and now have it all sussed out, but tenner a head come on. Coming prepared this time with plugs for the job bring it on. Come on the Taffs:cold:

f -ck the taking part its all about the winning (on my patch any way ) :bb: mr fish if we all blank on the bass ill strip off and take the plunge sea be rough dangerous ,so ill lie down let it soak me ,mike take the pic . we got cod rod back up . pete a tenner is all ill take from you any more be day light robbery :notworthy lol the gars are waiting buddy . nath this is getting personal now ,i dont care me mike loose so long as i beat you :kissing: mike put the post code on dont want another excuse from nath ,until i see that shrek and his dad in the car park 615 sharp im not a believer . i think a monthly league plugging, bass only different venues team of 2 tenner each winner take all is a good idea . But if we all travel to a pairs venue and not 1 bass caught ,one of that pair goes in , like i will tommorow ,those are the rules choose your venues carefully or lie down get wet ,also as its a league an extra fiver each per man each fishing ,heaviest total weight fish caught per pair wins final kitty . IF for any reason you cant make an agreed date by all ,hard ****e your just be down on the weight . those are the rules im happy to have other suggestions but i aint going to take any notice of um:nonono: mike will keep the book going any one who has venues with bass in it can join any time ,but your fiver still goes in on the day , and you get wet if its void of fish . ps i would let mike take the plunge , but greenpeace may be about to push him back :roll1:

its how many caught per team shrek total weight wins aint got to kill any unless you want one for the table take a photo on your mobile it will have the time on it we will all be together with in half mile we trust you mate you say it was a pound half photo it kiss it put it back . And the Cornish win!!! The results : Stormryder Bass of 4lb 8oz, Hound Dog (welsh) Bass of 4lb 6oz, peter the blank Bass of (not sure) but smaller than the main two, but had 4 so he caught the most, well done peter!! Pugs and runs had small ones also and is the reason we all caught, good one mate! Thanks, mr Taylor senior( my father) who is dragonpower on the forum now caught nothing and the biggest upset was that our host Mark333 blanked, but fair play to him, he jumped in the sea as he said he would! I am on my iPhone so I can't go into detail,well done guys, thanks for having us:)

it was a great day started off slowly,
then thanks to mike for showing us his spot when we arrived i had a small one about a 1lb,then moved 2nd cast caught one 4lb 6oz 3rd cast 3 to3 1/2 lb which i put back.
so in totall pete and myself had 7 fish,and we still lost
well done to nath :1a:

it was great to watch mark in the water,i have put peter forward to do the swim in wales if we blank on the rematch.

i will send mike the pics so he can put them on the site,
we did enjoy the beer after.

i must thank mrfish from jersey for sending me the tide minnows i needed b4 the match, as all my fish were caught on them.

after all the stick bob took over the walk i can only say he got back to the cars 10 min b4 the rest off use

i think the mud at magor will sort him out next trip.

What a cracking day fishing a big slow at first, because of the strength and direction of wind, but we all had a go. Change of venue a few miles down the road to one of Mikes marks with the wind in our favour and the bass, began to show. Personal bests on plugs for Stromryder and Hound dog with two nice fish with only two ounce's between them Stromryer the winner of the sixty quid. Also a first for me catching four bass in one session.
Thanks for a great day again lads i really enjoyed it. Wales 7 England 1 and if Stromryer turns down the sheep can i please have it I've worn my old one out.

It was a typical November morning on the south coast of england, three nations had gathered to spend a few hours throwing tiny pieces of plastic into the sea.

It was two hours after low tide and there was a slight swell (more like 6.8ft waves) There was a breeze coming from the w (more like 20-24 mph) "IT LOOKS FINE GUYS" (nathan aka stormryder) Weapons were assembled and the troops mustered for roll call, performed by Yoda aka Mark333. :boxing:

The Major (meant the matron) aka Mark333 then deployed the troops over the 4 mile battlefield.

After about 3 hours the soldiers retired from the call of duty due to the enemy not showing up. (thanks to the chief intelligence officer.......lol):oops:

Decided to change tactics from defensive (throwing plugs into a 26mph headwind, and stomping sea) To offensive and the newly appointed chief of intelligence directed the troops to little unknown isle called portland.

Im so glad my venue produced the goods for the boyz, but heres the bits you are waiting for the grand finale............lol

thank you my fish only got tlme for this one thread . i only took plugs for deep sea none snag work had not one shallow diver on me and as we were fishing snagy ground was not for me with what i had . no excuses what so ever . Now if you look back in time your see stormryder out fishes mark at chesil , when that day comes you have my word red rod my way .Storm ryder out fishes mark portland (cause he had shallow divers was not my deal) . THAT SAID BECAUSE WE ALL BLANKED at my venue i took the wave face down in my thermols lol . no sour grapes great lads ,but as i say again stormy i WONT EVER BE BEAT on my own venue by no one ,hound dog that includes you . i lost 45 pounds of plugs and mike broke a 90 pound spinning rod and lost 15 pound plug expensive day for dorset ,at best i had 20 casts at the tackle grave yard but will be prepared next time . well done to all loved it love you and good night

We (welsh) only did well at the second venue, because we had a tide minnow each that go just under the surface with some nice movement. It seems that's what they wanted.

A big sorry for :wheelchai on naths dad ,he is one fit f--ker ,(prob proving a point to ) Will have to get some tide minnows as they caught 7 of 9 fish ,so must be some thing in them . thats 2 venues 14 fish not to bad this time of year un weather and tides we had . On a small note about red rod s (sorry) nath let me have couple cast and with no effort at all small light lure flew out ,in a 26 plus mph head on wind ,impressive . THAT SAID i hate the look and that gap at bottom between reel seat and butt whats that about lol ,i hope nath dont beat me on MY HOME GROUND :cry:if had to get one .Hope fully you boy can find bass when we come to yours (note its got to be bass steve , pete ) though more than happy to whip you on cod to , but this is plugging forum , hate for you boys get it wrong , as more weeks go by colder its getting for your dip :cold: mike and i will try same reefs next week and keep you all posted . i gunning 4 you nath your place or mine :kissing:

Mark we will arange a trip next summer down the gower coast,were you can plug ,but in a couple of weeks i will be calling on all the troops for the big cod contest,and yes you will all catch a codling ,:)

When i was around fourteen years old on holiday in Brixham in Devon my friend and i were fishing off a small boat in fifteen foot of water. We were catching small pouting about four inches long on tiny pieces of mackerel. While bringing one to the surface this big spikey thing struck and foul hooked itself i crapped myself and luckly managed to get it in on the lightest of tackle. When we got back to the shore i was told it was a bass (9:7) and they were good eating.
I suppose being foul hooked it's not a legitimate catch, but I've spent the next thirty odd years trying to catch a bigger one.

mark as you can see from the early post pete is going to do the swim,if need be but that will be in swansea on the bass fishing,not the cod fishing,as we will kick you little a--- we need it to be fair, easy £60 for me and pete,

as you have said this time it is total number of cod per team.

i think nath and his dad will beat you to, so that will be 2-0 down it will be hard to pull that back when we all go down south.

Didn't read that as i was in bed early as we had to travel to u! Plus we ALL agreed the rules in the car park, biggest bass wins, never mind what u put on here its what we all agreed too, ask the rest! plus sweetheart its not about your rules either its about what the group wants and the conservation of our fishing. I don't think thats its right in the heaviest bag wins, we need to be more selective on what we keep, as if it was heaviest bag u would need to keep all bass u caught , now to me and i think alot of Bass men on here thats not good practice, as we are not commercial!:g:

If its a close thing Photos just will not cut it,as u would need to weigh the fish, and only verified by the opposite team.

Or we all fish with that rule but with another guy (not our partner) and get him to verify the Weight on scales and then put the fish back. but that means u will have to be quite close to him which might not be very good.:uhuh:

We traveled up to u, we all did and we all agreed to the rules, but U cant change things to suit your self mate, Even tho u blanked:g: We are all happy with the out come, but u cant agree a rule then at the end of the comp change the rule just because someone caught more.:uhuh:
We have different backgrounds when it comes to Basing mate and i am not here to pass judgment on anyone but being a member of B.A.S.S, i think Conservation first and foremost and keep the odd 1 or 2 for the table, forget heaviest bag just heaviest one fish, that way everyone has a fair crack at winning and to me more exciting like it was for Hound dog and I, that was unreal close, Hound dog had the right attitude as he put back a 3.5lb as it was pointless killing the fish.:notworthy

I just got home from playing in the pool league with Hound dog and I'm a little pi**ed and the wife will be coming down stairs in a minute to give me grief.

I feel like I have to step in here, seems to be turning a little too official. I did say at the meet that this would happen if we made it too serious.
1) If you go by the biggest single weight for the team ie a 6lber and the other member nothing. You would be gutted if you caught 6 3lbers and lost.:g:

2) Biggest at the end brought to the scales wins, simple as.

I went in my local tackle shop yesterday to pick up a cheap set of scales, ha-ha spent £60 quid.

They can hold up to 50 weights in the memory, perfect for the bass comp as me and Pete had 7 last time, remind me how many did you boys have.

GIVE HONEST ANSWER MATE as to what makes the better fisherman

Hi Mark, i had my 6 pounder on a Patchinko that i got from Mr Fish, awsome fight, one big swirl then it came back and hit it :bb:.
On the question of the comp, i would go for weight of keepers + your'e pair as the skill is in catching and landing, the weight is the luck of the draw. Granted it takes a lot of skill to land a big fish, so theres no need for arron and me to worry as we will catch the most and the biggest. It's going to be nice spending the money. I reckon that if the host team blank they should pay double money as well as swim, that wont affect you as i cant see you blanking at your'e venue again, that was a bad day at the office for you, a bit embarrassing really.:roll1:

Just got back from the latest round and we had another good day with a few fish hooked. Cornish boys were a no show, because their wife's wouldn't let out to play, so Glen from wales took their place.

The winner was Dorset with a cracking Bass of 7lbs:7ozs caught on an orange tide minnow. Well done Mark and wasn't he excited.

Yep them old tide minnows, had a bass and small pollock for me, lost my tide minnow after a wind knot snag snaped me off and that was the end of the fishing for me.
Nice Bass again Mark gives me something to aim for, well done Wales 2nd again. Cornwell did better with their reserve:bicycle:roll1:

MY MATE had a 5 pound 5 nothing else pete s rock (think we will call it that now as he dont move off it ) i had 5 fish for about 11 pound so i won ,again :1a:lol two tad under 3 rest about 2 ,all went back apart from his . I always get excited pete 2 pound or 10 pound ,the day i lose that ill give up honest . My spot in the morning 1st time its been clear in days . Still if it fails early straight up ons petes rock lol . to be fair its still fishing real well up there even on a north wind as it was today , so thats north and west ok there , big up to mike for taking us all there (i would have kept it to myself ) .few more weeks i hope then be real hard work ,ill let you know how i get on tommor .

ILL fish chesil at low being about 10 30 am then up to the reefs ,sure it will fish better on a bigger tide ,first blank up there today in 5 trips , tide only small , not flushing out the bait fish me thinks .Mike and i did find a lot of bait fish leaping today but alas not there ,and no bass behind them . Just as nice seeing her swim off . WHAT A night hey mate drove around 2 hrs trying to find some where to fish cause of weed . That was are last venue lol . We will save the story about the 7 bass all over 5 pound best you had of about 9 pound , and we only had 8 baits and had to pack up after the big one , i wanted to cry :cry: more so when walking out of there , up past are waists in sea full of conger :wacko:same conditions 2 night mate ,wind and tide and you did not want to go :doh:although its 2 months later than last year

cheers bob will do ,spoke to mick yesterday ,he said you 2 coming over next year ,when the fishing picks up , that will be nice (getting tenners from jersey ) to see you . :bleh: Cant believe its not fishing well your end ,what not even in boats out by those rocks and gutters . Were not getting loads now but odd fish ,better size . Need to get big baits down now really but become a bit of a plugging nut . couple more weeks plugging then its baits for me . 3 doubles shore caught last year mate , only the one this year , though im not complaining , But when you go 3 times a week to places you know throw up large fish every year its not really rocket sience . THOSE big girls want large baits nailed down this time year , ill work it hard in december and keep you all posted . ps i have asked mike to join me but he admits to being a fair weather fisherman as do a few other mates so looks like im alone :cry: ill get good camera and learn to put pics on . cheers

Hi mark .

Got out last weekend , we had 7 on the saturday :yeah:

Out on the sunday had 2 early fish the it was hard work ( bloody seal )

Following us every where we went so we headed back

One last mark to try in what we call the back yard !!!:clap: and yup

we found the fish 2nd cast hit into a horse of a fish on the orange feed shallow , got it to the boat then all hell let loose away it went under the boat , full drag to try and stop it and turn it !!! :nono: ROLLED ON THE LINE :black_eye battle over gill rake cut line , easy 5 kilo +

That fish had six following it and some nice stuff too Nelson cast behind this big fish and nailed a 5 pounder ,

cracking last half hour before the light went and had to go in
thats life aint yours till its on the deck :fishing: :thumbs:

Mark when we get over will bring JERSEY money you cant spend that your side of the pond

fair play my fish , i just fish as much as i can when i can 3 hrs after high tide is the best time for a nailed down baits here , had 4 doubles in last 3 seasons doing that . 12 .4 being the best . ALL on mac heads and guts . stange thing is lots of 5 s to 7s to but where are the 8 and 9 s looking back at old diarys over last 6 years only 3 in that bracket , did that class get whiped out , years ago .Funny enough this has been my 2nd best bass year ever for numbers caught ( about 450 ) all from shore , 700 plus being best year ( but did not have a mrs then ) fished every spare hr . This year had a 21 fish session and 2 sessions of 14 fish ,same tides and winds , so easy to build a pattern . all between to pound up to 7.9 all plug caught , still believe will get a good one before that temp gets to 8 degrees , then game over . SO sorry to hear you lost a big one big bob ,but there be others and thats why we all keep going . incidently my brother had a 9.6 last jan (Flounder fishing in 3ft water ) on a single rag over sand in a harbour , freezing cold . SOwho knows perhaps some dont leave . BOB i hope one you lost makes it here by tuesday :bleh: lol

We get a fair few Bass over a season. Like you, we used to count em and keep records. We still do to some extent and your dead right, in the 90's and early 00's you'd get a very fair mix of 7 plus Bass late season.

That seems to be 5 plus now with just a very few bigger fish thrown in.
Don't get me wrong, we've had a few 7 plus fish, but far, far less 9 plus than in previous years and no fish over 10lb on plugs or fly.

I know this sounds like elitism etc but its just an honest opinion of what's happened over the last years.

Decline, pure and simple. We are better anglers now fishing equal hours to that of 10 or 20 years ago but, sadly, the returns are in ever diminishing circles.

I don't just blame the commercials, we too as recreationals have done our fair share to help this along.

Whilst we return 99% of our Bass and many do now..., think how many didn't and for how many years and, how many still don't !

You also have to wonder with Bass being so residential..,are returned fish learning ?

i believe maybe we are not better fisherman now ,just have better kit ,lures ,rods braid ,ect ,ect .I still look through old book on sea fishing and catches were brill with old crap plugs cheap lines ,so believe there must have been lot more bass about ,although wouldnt it be good to try it the old way now to see what would happen .(some how i dont think a home made balsa plug ,would out fish a tide minnow ) but hey who knows ,. i for one truly believe that if you put any bait or lure in front of a feeding fish it would nail it , maybe right colour at right time of year more impotant than cost an action .Mike ladle had enough huge bass on what today would be bad plugs ,because there was lot more big bass about ,but i am 100 % sure big bass now would still hit those plugs but know one would use them cause lures have moved on

Hello Gents, Ive not been on in weeks as i have had a lot on, wife has been really ill! so playing the role of a house husband, kids and house work, OH MY GOD i could not be a woman they have got it hard, i prey for bed :sleeping:after a full day with this lot.:ahhh:

But any way i ve been out a few times plugging but i have had to take my boyz with me 8,4 and 2 years old so a bit of a handful to say the least, The bass are down here for sure,I had 2 on Saturday all to the ORANGE ONE and 4 yesterday (:whistlingall on a secret weapeon:bleh:) but nothing very big! biggest about 3lb.

I would love to have you boyz down but at the moment i am playing house daddy, so i dont want to say come down and let u guys down.:oops:

We fished two venues first the rocks it was hard going with the bright sunshine and north wind.(which makes fishing hard so I'm told?). Fished hard their most of the day then moved to a harbour point mark 1/2 hour before sundown.
We had a good day and good laugh even if the fish didn't show only two small ones off the rocks.
Hope the Misses is on the mend Nath, missed your company today.

went on the old beach today fav spot 5 mile walk ,sea looked perfect :clap2: Started 7am fiished noon ,5 hrs hard graft 4 one fish , about two and a half pound . i would like to say good fight but it nailed the topper , i kid you not ,less than a foot from the shore ,(as i was lifting out ) and next wave beached it . TOTAL FIGHT 3 SECONDS lol spiked me twice where it was so lively . Shot off like a bullet on return , half a min out and in . That was that ,no more, lots plugs tried . still enjoyed it nice mild day , lovely walk :yeah: recon thats nearly it for me on the plugging , though will take rod when bait fish ,see if i can get a night bass like my fish does :clap:

Always enjoy my fishing, but over the last three years i have concentrated more on lure fishing as a challenge and so glad i have. I've had limited if no success to start with, got disheartened, but met some really nice people.
Thanks Dog hound for all the encouragement, Mick from Jersey who not really knowing me took me to top marks and to his house and fed me. Also his mate and know my mate Bob who lent me a set of waders, gave me advice and made me feel like part of the group. Mark from Somerset who's enthusiasm is infectious and i would like to emulate cos he never gives up and it means so much to him. Mike from Dorset who's tried so hard to give me some good fishing and with success nicest copper I've ever met. Bob and his son Nathan from Cornwall friendly and always ready with advice without making you feel small cos you asked.
Thanks lads for making this a special year for me and i can't wait for next season.
