View Full Version : Shore fishing around Phuket
Dear all,
I'll be spending 2 weeks in the northern part of Phuket in February and am looking for any useful information regarding shore fishing in the area. I am an avid fly fisherman respecting the catch and release rule.
Maybe someone can help me out here:
- Are there any spots where we can wade out and have fun?
- Can we fish from Mao Khao beach or is it forbidden due to the park status?
- Is there any possibilities further North to do some mangrove fishing?
- Does someone know a reliable person who can bring me out to some reefs for a decent price?
Any info or personal experience is very welcome!! Happy New Year to all of you.
Tight lines!

Hi Mad Dog,
Please keep me inform if you find any good spot here in Phuket. Would be glad to have a fishing buddy here in Phuket. I once own a well knows charter back home in Singapore named - ROCKIN' ANGELS Sportfishing Adventure Charter. Now I'm settle down here in Phuket doing my other passion which is music. I've been doing some fishing around the island during my early days here and know quite abit of the ground here. If you like you can chat with me more in my cafe or tea house down by Phuket Old Town.

Bonjour mad dog
fished phuket a few years back. thailand is a real mixed bag, but generally it is over fished or even dynamited! I fished an overnight trip and caught mainly small reef fish up to a pound or so. from memory the english guides i met up with suggested a 2/3 day trip where they can travel out to some larger islands and reefs. There is good fishing there im sure, you just got to pay to get to it. The shore fishing was really poor as anything is eaten there by the very poor locals. I had visited it a year after the tsunami and so that may account for the lack of fish. for a bit of fun, try fishing phuket zoo - i kid you not, they have Pacu and Stripped catfish that will seriously pull your string.....caught them on bread and banana upto 25kgs. im sorry i cannot remember the guides name - i found them on google. hope it helps
