Hi John
It's difficult to be absolutely positive with those tiny specimens but it's only the Jack Crevalle (Caranx hippos) that has those tell tale black spots on the base of the pectoral fin and operculum.

And of course John those spots are still there in somewhat larger specimens. There's an image of a 47 pounder from Sierra Leone on post 22 of this thread - http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102558&highlight=Furnish&page=3.

I think it's probably a Senegal Jack, caranx senegallus Cuvier 1833. Mouth and head is all wrong for both horse-eyes and crevalles.

Dave - tsk tsk, plenty of other species have that tell-tale dark spot !! :bleh:

Whoops, from the mouths of babes and sucklings! Mind you that's blown the credibility of the IGFA out of the water, 'twas a direct quote from their Year Book!

Seriously John will be happy, another species for his ever growing count for 2008.
