The title says it all. What factors should be considered when choosing a general purpose boat rod? This will be fixed to a Penn Model 85, (what I have just overhauled)! Cheers, Tony.

hi Tony, my favourite GP boat rod is a diawa tdx 2050 which gives me a fairly soft tip and plenty of welly in the butt, it will also double up for drift fishing including pirking so all in all a good all round rod especially as they can be had on offer much reduced to what I paid for mine.

Boat Rod?

Where you fishing and for what?

I have Boat rods from 4lb to 80lb Class as well as uptiders and they all get used at different times.

Uptiding is usually used in shallow water (Bristol Channel etc) where you will be casting baits with leads of up to 10 oz depending on the rod and tide.

Uptiders dont tend to like having big lumps of lead hung off them when your downtiding.
