I think a Thames venue as suggested on the other thread, then weather wont be so much of an issue. Also a more central point to maximise the number of people and minimise the travelling distance.
No place on this side of the river Terry that will take the car parking and also involves a long walk. Needs to be on the kent side.

I quite agree. walmer castle is a good venue with loads of room. loads of parking and less than 100yds from the beach for those of us who are less able. Its also a clean beach and long casting is defo not necessary. All said, i will turn up wherever.
This is a great idea , and really needs a good attendance for an excellent cause. So, come on lads, lets have some opinions and get this show on the road.

Alan, I've never been to Walmer, what's the beach like, is there enough depth to get "Sandra Y" in, just in case the fishings a bit slow:boat:

Look for Deal on google maps. Walmer is between Deal and Kingsdown. It can be fished at all states of tide although the rising tide to high is best. quite deep water with a gulley at about 50yds, can be a very strong tide run. Most species can be caught. Yellows top bait. And yes you can launch a boat at Deal......but that would be cheating.......unless you donate £100 to the cause.
Access and parking via the Kingsdown road, either on road or in proper car park that is Free. There is also a public tiolet next to the carpark in case anyone gets caught short. Look on the link. The park and tiolets are at the junction of Granville rd and kingsdown road.

Blow bringing, your model Yacht, I'll get a trailer and bring A'Tuin
You fallen over again ?:bleh:
Will pick you up, may bring Essex Angler as well. ( must remember to take outboard, oars and all other boat gear out of car, or Urly will have to sit on the roof bars with the rods) :g:( thinks - may put Urly on roof bar and put rods in car anyway )
What about Erith Pier, fish straight out of Morrisons car park.
Should be good for dabs/flounder and basslets.

Look and Zoom in on the google/walmer link (a couple of posts back). Look for the junction of Granville rd and kingsdown rd. You will see the carpark AND a public tiolet. The beach is 50yds in front. The beach is similar to Hythe. Pebbles.

Hi Dev,
I know that i am plugging the Walmer venue but thats because it fits the criteria needed for a good meet. Its got everything. Even a public tiolet. Its easy to get to and although a long drive for our Essex members, its for a damn good cause. And i take it that its a daytime meet so as to capitalise on getting as many of us as possible.
I think that one thing that has been overlooked is the tide times for the 18 Jan09,
At Walmer HW is @1647hrs
At Sheerness (sheppey) HW is@1758hrs
At Walton on Naze Essex HW is@1753hrs.
For a daytime meet the tides are all wrong, unless we fish a low water venue.

Doesn't that fit the bill mate, I'm sure I read here somewhere that Walmer fishes best, from low upwards, we could all be pi55ed by half seven, and on our way home

As most know Walmer has always been known as a low water mark :bounce: it will fish the whole way up and an hour or so over the top.. hope this helps..:victory:

Sounds to me then, that Walmer must be the best place to hold the event. It will mean that we can start at a sensible time to give the ones who live a long way away a chance to get there, without getting up in the middle of the night, and we will get a good days fishing and make the trip worthwhile.
I vote Walmer.

Think we would be paddling in the mud if we fished the Thames that day and I get fed up with that trying to get to my boat sometimes.

Yes that is correct, Low up. Just putting into perspective that we may need to fish into darkness if we are going to be tied to tide times wherever we go. Alternatively, just fish no matter what time the tide, im sure we would catch something. After all its not about the catching its about raising a few bob for the cause.

Dunno about the match fishing side of the meet will decide when I am there, I am certainly going to drown a few worms, but mainly will just be going for the crack and to meet others, and put faces to names, and generally support a worthy cause, without trying to sound patronising,

I hope we see some improvement in the weather forecast, the current forecast is for 25mph winds and rain:ohmy:. If this is the case should we re-arrange it?

Not a chance, firstly, its a bitch for me to get a day off at the weekend, secondly you are askingthe hardcore crew not to fish in a slight breeze, thirdly, God invented the beach-buddy and floatation suits for this sort of weather, fourthly if its windy the sea should be nicely stirred up and the sprats could have dispersed.
Im sure those that cant make it could still donote.

I shall be bringing the minibus down anyway so plenty of room in there for me to keep dry, I shall just get the wife to do all the cooking:laugh:

Could be handy, I dont know what is likely to be available down there that we can use or where we will site it yet. I will try and find somewhere central so nobody has to walk too far for their grub.
I have also printed of some labels so that everyone can have their name on them somewhere, just in case they forget it:laugh:.
Food vouchers are printed and I shall also bring a copy of the guess the weight of the fish thread. I would like to be there for when people start to arrive so that I can make sure everyone gets their vouchers etc. What time would I need to get there?

The car park that we will be using, opposite Walmer castle, is open 24/7 but it does get fairly busy with 'Dog walkers' parking up. There is space for about 35cars. There is more parking 150yds back up the road opposite Granville Rd. If all turn out who say they will, we will probably be spread over this distance so parking shouldnt be a prob. There is also a public tiolet close by.
Will post exact location and directions later in the week.
The weather at present is forecast: strong SSW bearing WSW, this is not a bad wind at Walmer, With a WSW coming from and over your right shoulder. Unfortunately rain is also pridicted. We will see.

I had a dilema.
worry about the weather and stay at homewith the wife and kids or.
Go fishing enjoy what kind of weather it throws at me and possibly not catch a single fish.
Answer:
Fishing every time :)
Bring on the weather no matter what is is.I'll still be there.
Wind spped for saturday night until early sunday morning is now up to 40mph. Thankfully dropping to the mid 20's for sunday daytime. I guess the overnight blow will improve the fishing?

Terry,
Although the wind is a little concern, i dont think it will stop people turning out. The rain is more of a worry. Hope it holds off.
The wind is predicted as predominantly WESTERLY. At walmer this will be off the land from behind us/over our heads. The beach 'steps down' to the sea in tiers and may afford a bit of cover. The sea should be more or less flat.
Im sure things will turn out fine with loads of money being raised for the cause.
