Bit of a mad one tonight. Back onto night shift tommorrow, so always a good excuse to do an all nighter on the beach.

Bit too weedy where I wanted to go and the only clear place was near home where everyone goes swimming (except me, I have always known what also swims there....).

1st up, yep, sting ray. Not a big one, probably around 10kg. Back he went to **** someone else off tommorrow.

No bites on the big rod for a while, so had a bit of a play catching herring and whiting. Live bait. What could resist. Live herring went on, and more festy bits I found luring at the bottom of the freezer went for burley.

3 or 4 mins later it got smashed & up came this 30kg bronzie. It actually bit me off right at my feet. Wasnt a pretty sight I'm sure, me wrestling with an angry tube of muscle & teeth in the surf in the dead of night. Possibly not the brightest thing I have done for a while.

Hour later, another stingray. A lot bigger than the first. This one eventually smashed me up after 30 mins or so. So I didnt get to see it (boo hoo...), but trust me, I know stingas well.

Little while later, another livie on and the bait gets smashed big time. Rod standing to attention one moment, bent double line screaming from the baitrunner the next. This was no stingray (angry headshakes gave it away) and it didnt feel like stopping. After a couple of mins and 200m of line later, I couldn't feel it anymore. Must be swimming back towards me. Furious winding to catch up, only to find it had bitten clean through my 200lb wire trace (Upgraded from the 80lb mono I had earlier)..

Probably a good thing I didnt get to wrestle with it in the dark surf eh???
