View Full Version : Fishing Meet 07.03.09
coastman

Hi all,
We have agreed to meet at Colwyn Bay at the arches on 07.03.09 at 9.00am.
Then go and fish a venue nearby.
I have the tide times based on the arches and are as follows.
High tide 07.18am and
08.02pm
Low tide 02.17pm.
Need some help on selecting a venue and some idea on how far people are prepared to travel.
Think the easy option would be to fish the arches area at high tide as theres plenty of parking.
Would had prefered a better time say low at 10am and high at 4pm which would give more options for venues.
Your opinion is needed.
Cheers Coastman

Hi,
Just wondered who intends to come on this meet.
Only had one reply to this thread and thought is there a intrest in this meet, as the initial post had plenty, or is there a reason for this.

Hi coasty..if im not away will defo come along..Arches or anwhere along colwyn /rhos in daylight in March will be hard going i believe.
just a suggestion of course but think north shore will offer deeper water, with an afternoon meet to fish high water.

Hi all,
Realy looking forward to meeting up with all of you and having a great day no matter what the weather or fish brings.
Think the main benefits are that future meets can be arranged as we know each other and can exchange knowledge and help and maybe do a fund raise meet in the future for a worthy cause.
See you soon - Coastman

Hi,
Just thought of the way people bring bait for meets.
Although we bring bits from the freezer or dig our own, is it not a good idea to buy in bulk from a local supplier.
Say a cost of £5 per person who's fishing, so £50 for 10 people with a mixed bag of:
Lug, Rag, Sandeel and Squid etc, for those who have diffeculty in purchasing.
Just a Idea ?

Hi,
Liz and I are up for the bulk bait buy for the meet.
Anyone want to contribute a fiver and I will place an order for some fresh lug and rag etc.
Other ideas welcome.
Otherwise bring your fork and dig as me and the queen drink tea and watch you - lol.
Coastman
Hi Coastman,
I will go along with that, but one question, where do you plan to get the bait from?
Gaz from Anglesey Tackle Center does excellent bait, BIG Black Lug from Llandonna beach, and excellent Rag, he lives in Colwy Bay, and if someone got to the arches early enough, I bet he would drop it off!!

Nick and Tus,
Thanks for the offer and fine with me.
Think it is best to give time for anyone else who want to give a fiver for bait, say Friday 20th Feb 09.
I will then pay Gaz and collect the money (the fivers) on the day.
If this is ok or if there is a better way.
Thanks Coastman
Coastman,
Thinking on the bulk bait buy, you will only get a couple of packs of Lug for a Fiver, it might be a good idea to collate names and then order accordingly,
i.e. I would want more than just two packs of lug, which would cost more than the fiver?
Whats your thoughts or ideas?
Dave
Colwyn Bay HW. 20.00hrs, 7.9mtr on Lavers Tide Table, its only a smal tide so sourcing good bait might be a problem?

Baldie,
Hi mate,
Thought the benefits were-
Buyer, would get extra bait by spending more money.
Supplier, sells in bulk so quick turnover.
Potential future business.
Soz Gaz, not trying to put in a arkward position as I know its about supply and demand.
Coastman
I will through a fiver in. sounds like a great idea :)

Hi Markfish,
Head up the A55 Chester direction and come off at Junction 22 Colwyn Bay and turn left at the give way.
You will then be faced with the sea 30 Metres/yards in front of you at a T junction.
Turn right and head along the prom to the end where theres a small car park and the arches.
Your there at the Arches.

Nice to see lots of interest..has a venue and time been decided ? last I heard was an afternoon meet 4pm,with North Shore or Llandulas as possible venues?
Am I right that tide times posted was high at 8am on Sat Morning if so a later meet at Llandudno fishing up from low up could be better than Colwyn..

Hi All,
I live in Stafford but have tried to Fish off the Walsh coast in 2007 but it has been a long time since I fished in anger (well I was angry cos I caught nowt! but you get the idea) something like 20 years
Just bought a camper and I will be over with my girlfriend on the 7th and would like to join you guys and gals for bait and fishing, tea, chatting oh and some fishing.
I remember a few basics but would really appreciate some lessons and make some friends with similar interests and learn to, never know might be able to add something - like how not to do it!

Just let us time and place also what to bring.

Hi Coastman,
Spoke with Gaz last Saturday Ref bait, he said that the weekend of the meet is the same weekend as the British open championships, over Yorkshire, everyone wants bait, but he said if we get the order in early enough he should be able to accommodate us, and will drop it off at a pre-arranged time and place.
So suggest we order ASAP and arrange date and time, if the meet is to be later in the day, maybey someone can pick it up from the shop? whats your thoughts??
Dave
i live in bangor and will pick it up for you if you want
before i come to the meet

The more the merrier,,,,,,,,,,,,
What weight leads are needed as I've only fished down North Devon & the Gower where 5-6oz was needed!?
Hi Gonga,
Welcome!!
5-6 oz will be OK, maybey 4oz if the weather is calm, not too much tide run in the bay, especially with the size of tides on the day of the meet.
See you then.
Dave

A good chin wag, free advice,
casting tips from baldie and maybe some fish caught.
Some legends off the site to meet and learn from.
A good day to enjoy in these hard times of stress.

Only just noticed this thread as I don't often fish North Wales during the winter but would love to come to the meet if that's OK?
Is it far from the railway station?

Weather for the day seems to be 9-10 c partly cloudy at first(small chance of a shower) becoming more cloudy with increasing risk of some light rain through the evening/night.Westerly wind 10-15 with some stronger gusts during daylight, with the wind getting up to 23-28 as the evening progresses and the temp drops a little to 6-7c. Having said that ,this is North Wales and forecasts tend to change quite a lot, will be packing the sun cream myself !!!

Great stuff!! So the way forward is clear for me to mix up a real smelly concoction to attract the Dabytings and blame the odour on the beans! See you all there by the swimming pool? We can always fish in there if it's too rough!

Swelleyman,
The swimming pool is always a ideal place to experience the turberlence effects of wind against sea and a good place to meet.
See you on Saturday.

Tus,
Thats what I like to hear.
Were putting on a good feed for them, with all that bait in the sea, in a small area, its bound to attract them from miles around.

Hope the day goes well for you all
