Thats what I like Barry a bit of the Cornwall + Devon rivalry, clogs and pasties. Was thinking of doing a photo gallery ( al a tony Hart) of some of my fave cornish marks, one of which is a thornie mark next to the king harry ferry. fancy telling us all about some cornish marks or Pm ing.

Hello guys,
If ok and still some space left on the beach I'd like to come along to the meet, plus it would be my first meet and a chance to see some of you colourful characters that grace these pages. :punk:
Hopefully by the time the meet comes round I will have broken my thornie virginity as spent all last year trying and the closest I got was a traffic cone from sandwich bay. :bangin: Things gotta be better this year. :headhurt:

Pulleys and up and overs work there. Strong snoods a minimum 2 foot long and a strong hook is needed (4/0 works for me). Pennals are a good idea due to large baits (also know of a double shot taken last year on a pennal).
Blueys are prob top bait but large sandeels work well in daylight as the dogs dont usually come out to play til after dark. Other baits known to catch there are Mackerel, herring, squid and peelers.
Guess you can count me in Wayne! Seems I've been missing something.
Don't want to be a killjoy but guess what happened on 25th April last year????????? It got netted (Remember that wonderful day Dave).
Still, sounds like it will be good day regardless!

ESSEX ANGLER
04-02-2009, 20:59
Count me in, it will make a change to try for a ray from the beach.
I had an interesting PM earlier.
Hi Guys
New member fisheyes, having noticed the great interest in Maui Jim sunglasses amongst the diehard pluggers on the "Salt Fly, Lure and Plugging Fishing" sub-forum has offered a 25% discount to forum members.
Being from Essex I encouraged him to come along to the thornback meet. He has now come back to me with the offer below. These polarizing glasses are considered one of the best and it certainly seems like a great prize with the summer months approaching.
I'll leave it to you to make the arrangement with fisheyes, unless you want me to get involved and help.
Look forward to seeing you guys at the meet, if not before.
Cheers
Joe
Maui Jim Sunglasses
Hi
Maui Jim have let me know that they are prepared to offer a pair of Maui Jims either prescription or non prescription up to the value of £400 to the winner of the Thornback Ray Comp. I am also trying to persuade them to supply some promotional items ( keyrings or similar)
They have asked me to organise this if there is an interest. They will also be supplying me with a selection of the sports models for forum members to try.
Not sure who to contact to see if ok

A few of us have had a chat over the last day or so and have decided to do some fundraising for helpforheroes on the big thornback ray meet (25th april).
This charity helps our nations war heroes who have been wounded in action, many people believe its the least we can do for them!
we will be getting some wristbands off of the charity for sale on the day which will cost £2 each and john68 has contacted the charity to let them know our intentions for the day. there will be a collection for those wanting to give a little to the fund (no obligation). any further fundraising ideas are welcome.
lets look forward to some good fishing, a few laughs and hopefully raise some money for a worthwhile
cause.

Who are Help for Heroes?
Help For Heroes was the idea of Appeal Chairman Bryn Parry and a group of friends and relations, many of who have connections with serving servicemen and women. Bryn and his wife Emma wanted to do something to help the wounded and came up with the idea of a sponsored bike ride. They mentioned it to some friends who mentioned it to some more friends and suddenly Help For Heroes was born and growing fast. A flurry of visits to various offices led to the campaign being blessed by the head of the army, Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Richard Dannatt.
Help For Heroes does wonderful work for soldiers and other servicemen and women both directly and through its support of other service charities.
