Right lads have spoken to mick and he thinks be a good idea to do a boat versus shore challenge ,only bass over 3 pound count , 1st may till 1st november , we will put are results on with pics and tape measure , see the difference in catch rates , any you boys can join in ,lets see if shore fishing is up there with the horse power boys ( they have got some brill ground out there mind ) biggest will come from shore to ,as well as most . Recon you would have to catch over 150 to be up there with his boat over 6 months ( prize is free afternoon with him on his boat ) wearing his breathable range lol

I am looking forward to it, and to be honest it wont be easy, but I will give it a good go. I think rather than a prize there should be a forefit, who ever loses must either dress in drag (me) I dont actually see that as a forefit!! And if its you its an oompa loompa costume, pictures to be posted here..

I was doing the maths yesterday. 6 x 6 hour boat trips per month, 6 x 3lb or over fish per trip (reasonable), over 6 months = 6 X 6 X 6 X = 216 fish. Hope you guys have some good shore marks lined up!
And by the way, surely the forfeit should be MrFish dressing as an Oompa Loompa for at least one day in the shop, and vice versa!

st ouen , that is great , mick i agree i will post pic the same as yours to a tee , complete with fag with in 3 days of nov 1st IF mr fish agrees to to umpa lumpa it in his shop on a saturday ( no quiet week day s ) as 4 good shore marks , the amount is fine , its the size ( over 3 may be a prob , fishy boy do we have a deal :thumbs:

sick lol but rather funny , my mrs is cracked up , she called me an umpa lumpa years ago , still its made me so much more determined to whoop your butt on our challange , so you dress like one for the day and green face paint you will wear , cause ill be there to rub it on lol , just one other thing who was sad enough to have your lovely legs moved off the forum , they know who they are , we were only having a laugh and it got loads of looks , just dont look at it in it , not get it moved sad as , if you ask me .Still funny my umpa s on there , whats that got to do with fishing :crazy::crazy::crazy:

100% honest with you mate, I had a few pm's from guys telling me they were sick of seeing it, I said it didnt bother me at all but if it offends anyone to take it off. So the mods have moved it, it is a shame but there you go, its not as funny as your oompa lompa one though mate....

Tell me about it, monday nights you get the double whammy of soaps, we have already had emerdale, corry, easternders and soon another corry, and nelson just text me to say there is bass fishing on... doh!!!
The Gunnish is awesome mate, lots of good fish taken on it, its a surface lure that walks and pops. Phone me if you want one I have some great colours.

So as a couple of you already know (I phoned Mark this morning at 8 oclock) me and Alex (jordanis3r) went out to try our luck. The weather was beautiful but turned rather horrid pretty quick. Anyway I wangled one out just touching the 3lb mark and Alex had one of about 2lb. Both caught on Xlayers and we were bothed chuffed as the conditions got bad and we had to head in early.
So come Mark, out of bed mate, no excuses!!

Number 2 for me!!! I went down the boat to just put it back on the trailer and put Nelsons back on his mouring, but decided to pop around the corner for an hour. 3rd cast of the day and my Xlayer hooked into this nice 4lb 6oz'er that I will be having for tea tonight with my first Jersey Royal new potatoes I was given today.
Come on oompa, I know you were best man this weekend at your mates wedding but give me some competition please.

well i blanked , for some reason the water was a horrible colour , went with aron and marty h and a newbee :crazy: called off are first spot made them move to spot 2 and marty h had a fish of couple pound second cast , then lost one third cast ,and that was it , nice to see him smiling (priceless) as they said they won ,and i should go for a dip, but as plugs and runs me partner in crime was not there ,or welsh boys or pastie suckers ,no chance, next trip out thursday evening mrfish my boy then sat morning , well done for leading so far :victory: enjoy it while you can :laugh::laugh::laugh:

We call it the "May rollers", and by cry there was some rollers this weekend, I nearly got tossed off a few times!!!! :laugh:
Went out with the Saint today to try and stretch my lead a bit more but only managed a few wrasse and pollack, even Dougie came out for a change and managed a pollack, it was awful out there but fair play to the Saint, he put some elbow grease into it (private joke!).

Went out today with St Ouen and we tried and tried but only managed a few wrasse and pollack. Not for the want of trying though. So you are lucky Mark, if the swell and wind hadnt been so strong we would have found some bass.
Still winkled out this 5lb 2oz wrasse though on a Mother Worm, it fought like mad on the Super Mix from 50ft down and didnt stop til it got to the surface.

Please could you post a pic of the Saruna? I haven't tried one but I have heard a lot of good things about them from France.
BTW if it makes you feel any better I was standing on the edge of a reef last Wednesday when two fish around 6-8lbs followed my lure in across a shallow gutter. The closer they got, the lower I crouched (a quivering wreck) until one of them saw me and it was all over. Thick dark backs and a vortice in the water about 1.5m long as they departed stage left.
Still - seeing fish like that keeps me going for weeks, but why is it that this seems to happen at some marks and not others - follows I mean?

Its not that a was misserable on saturday, I had two 21 year old girls fishing with me and it was like having Vicky Pollard and Catherine Tates "Lauren" on the boat, it was hard work.
Anyhoo, the Saruna is one of my secret weapons that i havnt tld the oompa about, its a belter when the fishing is tough, saved the day a few times for me in the past.

right ,to be honest was going to say blanked , but i didnt , to be honest i caught 9 , but not one on a plug , all pics on me mobile , and if you added them all together you would not get 3 pound , fished tits off till low water , 230 pm , then gave up ,and went to my sad bagging spot just to feel , and see what a bass looks like , no skill needed , and a place where you never blank , but 20 to 30 fish to get one 3 pound , ( in fact i have had 2 that big since comp started ) but would not cheat for love nor money , and may my knob fall off if i do , and may his get stuck in his brother if he does :roll1::roll1::black_eye:headhurt:going sat , big meet ,lots coming , loads to witness my catch :whistling nice small tide and a west wind , lovely , not the south east , east rubbish had today , sorry post so late , went and tiled a floor on the way home , to keep the mrs happy , just got in and im hanging :sleep:

well a great little session ,7 bass in total 2 close to 3 pound and one smashed it , 63 cm of hard fighting bass , a tad under 5 ,weighed in at 4/13 ,but not sure on there scales to be honest as bass tape read good 5 plus , o well , im on the board , mike was with me and hope he will put picture up soon :clap2::thumbs: lucky mr fish , i cant pick the size that hit the lures , one day soon a load is going on in one hit :icecream::bleh: so hurry up will you , give me something to chase :yeah: o and thanks for the plugs , got them today , more to destroy you :bleh::bleh::bleh:

no mate ,i got the biggest , but its most fish over 3 pound that wins this one , 2 1 to him at mo , hes hitting it hard ,this weekend , i got a septic foot , cant do much , recon over 3 days , he will put up another 5 at least ,on these tide s and weather :crazy::shutup: know i could :crazy::crazy::shutup::showoff:

Well Bob and me tried and tried today and didnt even see a bass, only had a few pollack and a ponger!! So tomorrow we are heading to our normal grounds as we had tried west today and it looked amazing but there were no fish. This comp is driving me mad to be honest, all thats going through my head whilst I fish is the fact that I MUST beat you!!!

So whats happening? Is it a draw at the moment? Well I had nine bass on saturday, two on sunday and I blanked on monday!! Building tides too...work that out? Anyhoo, 11 bass and only one over 3 lb, nightmare, lots of small bass about this year here, which is good in one aspect but very scary in another as one dam gill net could scoop hundreds up in one evening.

It was just over 3lb, like less than 3lb 1oz, but 3lb is the min in our challange. They will get bigger soon...... I hope!

:laugh: im winning ,im winning :crazy::crazy: :laugh: to be fair ,mr fish and i ,are struggling ,and this comp has put the kiss of death on the bigger fish (over 3 ) for both of us , i had 7 over 3 month before this comp started :laugh: still we both agreed that comp end 1st of december (nov being a good month ,we hope ) 53 bass now 13 over 3 pound , only 6 that count , and for days ,hrs ,time ,and effort , i have put in , 26 session s , 2 to 4 hrs each , its about a fish every hr and a half , hard hard work , still ,things are loking up mr fish , so get dougy to let you out on that boat more :laugh::kissing: thanks again mike ,for pics on :victory:

sorry 2 fish , one under 5 ,one an ounce under 4 pound , steve got the pics , as for the 8 plus ( for sure an 8 ) could not get it out went in to it , hand both hands on it top , in couple feet water racing around , for plug to fall out of mouth , mike ( plugs runs laughing ) said it was a 7 at best , but till he gets a seven plus (what would he know :bleh::bleh::bleh:) fish was going back any way and could have got soaking jumping on it , but whats the point , going to put a good few up this week that i can tell you :thumbs: texted mick (mr fish to tell him the good news , for him to say its really hard for him on these small tides :nerd::nerd::nerd: they aint that big here mate :bleh::bleh::bleh:, so 9 ----7 to me with a good chance of a good amount going on this week , love you mick , but i aint dressing as a tranny ,like you did for no one :nerd: umpa lumpa all the way for you my son :clap::clap::clap:

Yeah I had one today that was about 4lb 8oz I suppose, went well but not as well as the one I lost!! Bloody thing, my leader broke at the albright knot, St Ouen said its because I cast the knot though my eyes, so I have now shortened the leader to about 12" so its dangling past the tip ring, no probs so far. Like I said today Mark my little munchkin, it aint over til the fat tackle dealer sings....

bad , bad day , at the office , i blanked , and took my lad elliot , 12 years old , showed him the ropes and he caught a 2 pounder , the look on his face , made it all worth while , the bad day bit , was i lost 3 YES FU--INFG 3 off my favourite plugs , orange tide minnow 175 ( that all around me was catching on ) a sinking tide minnow 175 , darkish sand eel looking thing , and my only xrap ayu size 12 , which is hard to get hold off , and a brill lure for me , so a 50 quid day to see my sons smiling face , was it worth it , of course it was :happy: mick can you send on a orange tide minnow asap ,cheers , and reason for lost plugs , dam ,bail arm kept snapping shut on twinpower , even though i always open it away from me , think , tom has had same problem and 20 pound power pro snapped like cotton , think screws on arm maybe working loose , ah well ,win some you loose some lol

So I managed one of 3lb 10oz today, its crazy to be honest, Doug had two over 4 and one over 5 when he was with me the other day, Nelson and Neil have been slaying them on Zonks over the last few days up to 6lb, but me and Bob have been sticking on the surface cos we love it. So whats the score now dear chuckle brother?

Live sandeels? Man if I was using live sandeels over here it would be rediculous. What this comp has taught me is when I guess a fish at being 3lb it usually isnt, its usually between two and a half and three pound. So all those years when I have been rounding my figures up to the nearest lb have probably been wrong and the 100+ over 3lb is probably pie in the sky. Now is the time for the better fish though, so lets hope those numbers keep rising eh.

Poor Mark, I was up first part of the week scaring his fish away, all we had was a mackie each, some portuguese jellies and I found a Dorset seal:laugh:

3 today bloo/y hard work , one 53and half cm 3. 3 so thats us level mr fish ,ill send pic to mike to put it up / another 48cm and a baby one / all on different plugs , which is rare for me , in one spot , and as for weed , all i can say is i moved to 5/6 spots to get away from it :hammer: 1st fish over high 830 / last fish 1045 , o well going again tommorow :bounce: meeting hound dog (steve) we will get a few each , think marty h may join us as well , all i can say is same size tide and winds for weymouth bass festival as today , one half of the comp will be weeded out completly :hammer:

It was a very calm day but taking one off the top in those conditions is like dropping a house brick in the water, the whole surface errupts, I love it.

Well I thought I was doing well today until I saw that cracking 10lb'er Mark had, what a fish mate fair play to you, that monkey will be kicking me in the back a bit harder now.
Anyhoo, Bob, Tobi (forum member Dangermouse) and myself went out today, I met Tobi at half six and we picked Bob up at seven, went for the traditional bacon roll and coffee and were on the water by 8. It didnt take long and we started catching, Tobi had his first Jersey bass on a Tide Minnow and then his first ever bass ona surface plug, great stuff.
We moved over to where I had had that 7lb'er last week and I hooked a nice fish of 3lb 14oz, and I was chuffed, but as I am getting it out of the net Tobi goes and has one of 6lb 4oz, both fish on the Jap crap Tide Minnow again (175 and a 200).

A few more fish, Bob in fact had a beauty but I will let him post the pics and story. It then went quiet over the high for a couple of hours but as the tide started dropping we moved out to another spot we like. Bob and me had a double hook up, which we quite often have but dont ever have anyone to take a piccy of us together, so that was nice. Both fish just under 4lb.

So a good day, we ended up with 17 bass, mainly on Tide Minnows but some were also caught on a Z-Claw, Sammy and Zonk.
So with Marks 10+ and my 2 I had today I make that 15-13 to me....Mark I bet you wish you had weighed those couple you threw back today eh? I in fact had to others today that if I was guessingthe weight I would have said they were 3lb, but alas when I weighed them they were just under, it just shows you do need to weigh em.

Well, I wasnt going to mention it but sod it, I lost a massive fish today, about the fifth cast of the morning I had a slamming take and the fish tore towards me, went straight under the boat, rod bent more than ever before, fish dived deeper as I had to drop the rod tip to go around the engine, fish saw oyster beds and darted underneath, my braid pinged instantly, lost fish and lure. I didnt get a look at the fish but believe me it was the by far the bigest bass I have ever hooked. Can you imagine how gutted I was thinking of how cool it would have been if we had both had doubles this weekend. :bangin:
Anyway, as I was looking at my parted braid and my bottom lip was sticking out and quivering, Bob hooks his first of the day, a good scrapping 4lb 5oz

Fishing was hard today, really small tide, easterly wind, but we moved to another spot and had a few more, I think we ended up with 6 today. I had my best of the season so far, a very clever, hard fighting 7lb 8oz, that just would not come to the boat, it span and rolled trying to cut the line with its gill plates, clever clever fish, if it wasnt for my 20lb fluro leader I recon he would have had me.

Bob had a lovely one towards the end of the trip, it went 5lb 8oz and this one too went really well, the fish just seem to be fighting so well at the moment, it may be because they are bit bigger than we normally catch to be fair but I do find even biggish fish dont always fight well for their size, but these went mental.

Just to rub salt in, I lost another belter around the same time Bob had his 5lb 5oz, it tore off, stripping line and as I tried turning it it was gone. All I had was a straightened treble on my Zonk!!:bangin:
So mate, I dont now how you got on today but I make it 16-13 now, but I know all that could change very quickly if you get into a shoal on the secret mark you go to.
Well I thought I was doing well today until I saw that cracking 10lb'er Mark had, what a fish mate fair play to you, that monkey will be kicking me in the back a bit harder now.
Anyhoo, Bob, Tobi (forum member Dangermouse) and myself went out today, I met Tobi at half six and we picked Bob up at seven, went for the traditional bacon roll and coffee and were on the water by 8. It didnt take long and we started catching, Tobi had his first Jersey bass on a Tide Minnow and then his first ever bass ona surface plug, great stuff.
We moved over to where I had had that 7lb'er last week and I hooked a nice fish of 3lb 14oz, and I was chuffed, but as I am getting it out of the net Tobi goes and has one of 6lb 4oz, both fish on the Jap crap Tide Minnow again (175 and a 200).

A few more fish, Bob in fact had a beauty but I will let him post the pics and story. It then went quiet over the high for a couple of hours but as the tide started dropping we moved out to another spot we like. Bob and me had a double hook up, which we quite often have but dont ever have anyone to take a piccy of us together, so that was nice. Both fish just under 4lb.

So a good day, we ended up with 17 bass, mainly on Tide Minnows but some were also caught on a Z-Claw, Sammy and Zonk.
So with Marks 10+ and my 2 I had today I make that 15-13 to me....Mark I bet you wish you had weighed those couple you threw back today eh? I in fact had to others today that if I was guessingthe weight I would have said they were 3lb, but alas when I weighed them they were just under, it just shows you do need to weigh em.

Some quality fish there for you Jersey boat boys. Sad to hear about the big ones.Sometimes they are just too strong and have made it to cover before you can turn or stop them (as George discovered last week). But (and it's a big but!) you have had some decent fish on the boat and 2 at 7+ so it's not all bad? Seems like today was a Zonk kind of day from the pics?

Nice fishing Mark - I hope to come and sample the fishing before the season is out!
2 more today , hard work though , had to go to 4 different spots to find them , best going 5.3 , and the other 3 .12 , (this one was at tunnys spot ) bigger ones a secret , ill get over to mikes and stick the pics up , think thats 21 ...................16 now to the umpa , loads of bass about at the mo , numbers of fish great , 3 pound is a strange weight , loads look it , but like mick said till you weighed um , never can tell , thursday , friday next hit , got to work for couple days :wallbash::thumbdown but fridays looking a great day , thursday not so great ( be a bit to much colour me thinks ) enjoying this :roll1::bye1:ps caught in a east north east wind , so happy with that , cause thats rubbish here

My mate Nelson has had this week off, been nagging me to come out every day but had too much on at work. He had two 5+ on monday, I think he had 4 in total, lost a double on tuesday and had other fish, he had 19 on his own yesterday 2 over 6 and 2 over 5 plus plenty over 3 and he had a few today too. You are lucky I was busy Mark......and the weather is looking pants for the weekend. Have a nice holiday....but remember any chance I get I am out there :happy:

3 fish all small , 2 marks unfishable , lost a near 4 pounder at my feet 1st cast at 3rd mark , also a nice fish took a look at a surface plug , but didnt want it :hammer: and a polloak , all fish takin on a SLD tide minnow black cheek thing , and i tried 20 plugs , 5 toppers . o well always next time :laugh::victory:

did a stint today , 4 bass best 4.2 and a 3.6 , a nice forum member is coming next week , to show me a bit on the computer , pics ,etc , the other 2 were 2 pound plus , but i only had 2 hrs fishing before work , 23 -19 brother :laugh::crazy::laugh: ill stick up all pics asap , lost a 6 plus to , so you were lucky :victory::kissing:, its just till the end of this month mick , so chop chop , or umpa lumpa you will be :laugh:

Weather is pants for a 16ft boat mate, you are the lucky one, I knows there is fish in my playground but cant get to them.....:unsure:
