Did any of you that went to the boat show see the new Warrior "Angler Pro"?
Based on a 165 but with some of the features from the 175.
Some nice bits are the enclosed fishing cuddy buit into the cuddy roof.
Walkway inside the cuddy to the hatch so no kneeling on the seat to pull the anchor.
Switches around the steering wheel.
Various pockets etc inside the cuddy
All the windows bonded into place, no bolts
Curtain over rear transom to hide the tanks and rubish in the back.
Did not see any prices however.

Hi Dave,
Went to the show yesterday and seen Warrior and spoke to Paul about the new Angler Pro". Show price was £15000.00 with Honda 75 and after the show it £16000.00.
Some nice touches like you say the canopy is now tidyed away, New floor covering, more storage and even cup/can holders!
Was'nt to busy either yesterday, good for us but not traders.
Fishing section was also a big dissapointment :wah:

This boat is aimed at two people fishing whereas the 165 is three.

I had a long look at the Pro Angler. It is externally a 165 hull, but internally it is completely different. It is built like the 175, all GRP with no plywood deck. That pushes up the price, the weight and the strength. They've brought the cuddy edge back 4", sacrificing deck space in order to give more storage. There's shed loads of that, open pockets above the cuddy seats like the 175 has, a big locker in front of the passenger and a huge new console with an access hatch to the instrument wiring (and cupholders, as has been noted elsewhere). Windows are now toughened glass.
The half canopy now lives in a box locker along the extended edge of the cuddy. Not as easy on the eye as the old 165 cuddy but it is still new, might well grow on you. Internally, she's all shiny GRP with Treadmaster decking al la 175. Smart. The transom has been reworked to stop large 4 strokes fouling on full tilt. They made the livebait wells bigger while they were on.
I think it classes as an upmarket 165. If you only fish two as a rule, have a little extra cash but don't want the bulk of the 175 then this beast marks you out from the 165 crowd. I can see them selling four 165's for every Pro Angler but IMHO it WILL sell, it has the quality you'd expect from Warrior.

Personally I would rather go the extra few grand and have all the same features with the extra length - the 175.

Thanks for posting those pics, yeh looks nice, sticking with the standard 165 now after taling to Paul today, just about to put a deposit down now, did u notice what price they had on the standard 165 at the show?

The package was £13,500 for an all-blue hull, Mariner 60 4 stroke and a fair few extras like bucket seats and cuddy lockers. Congrats and welcome to the Unofficial Warrior Owners Club :)
Out of interest, what's the lead time on deliveries at the moment?

Hi Adam,
Paul was definite - more storage isn't his own idea, it's what he's most often asked for. It is a big improvement on the stock 165 in several respects but at the expense of money and deck space. I'm going to be sitting in Lookfar now, looking at the clutter I normally carry and deciding whether the extra storage of the Pro Angler is actually useable.
For the 175 vs Pro Angler equation, I agree entirely. They are priced pretty close together and you are getting a vastly bigger boat with the same features, and a softer hull too. The 175 just doesn't suit my needs though, the extra weight and beam cause too many problems.

Yep did it today - paid the deposit! Standard 165 with 75 Etec.
Got a good deal as well, cheaper by a long way than buying off a dealer over here.
I asked for 1st of March and that was not a problem.

Nice piccies! - She looks great.
Like the bonded windows - the bolted ones look a little rough around the edges - although I wonder how hard they will be to replace? The ones on Blue Warrior are 4 years old now and have crazed enough to be changed.
Where have the LOVELY comfy bucket seats gone? They seem to be fitting those short fold down types?
Jury's out on the cuddy extention - neater than having the other type, but asthetics are comprimsed slightly?
Love the traedmaster decking - I fitted my own last year my my 165 and its made loads of difference.
Dont like the walkway to the bow - I like to kneel out of the hatch to work the anchor at the end of the day - lazy, see!
Finally the smooth gel finish inside has been copied from the 175 and is a great improvement! - Can the 165 get any better?
The question for me at the moment is whether to 'stay loyal' and upgrade to the 175, which is basically a bigger and more capable 165 or to go to a Raider 18 - standing wheel house, bulkhead etc, but would it comprimse the ride?

Hi Adam,
My only concern with a toughened glass window is whether they'll shatter if you get any flex in the cuddy. As for replacement of perspex ones, there was a DIY thread by Domino on that job on the Poole website a year or so ago. You can also buy the pre-cut panels from Warrior. Mine are about shot as well :wah:
Bucket seats are now an (expensive) option. I hate those fold-downs, they have a nasty finger guillotine designed into the hinge section. I go cold just thinking about it.
For a little bloke like me the walkway is great, as kneeling on the seat to haul anchor overstretches my back. Being able to stand and use my legs to haul is far better (that came out a little odd but I know what I mean :rolleyes: )
Stay loyal! The ride on a 175 is substantially better than a 165. They just soak up the chop.

Hi Sean, good luck with the new outfit, i wonder if the dealers over hear will cop on and drop their prices , they must loose allot of trade as its well worth taking the ferry over for most boats,

Longshaft will work a lot better. I have a 4hp on mine and it is just about capable of 4-5 knots. Depends on what you want your aux to do. Trolling, holding station in an emergency - 4hp. If you seriously expect it to get you home when the bigfoot dies then 6-8hp but that's a LOT of extra weight.

Looking forword to my first fishing trip a bit nerves.I said i would go for the 165 as
it seems to be a good safe boat.I have a ford focus 1.4 petrol car and its under abit of pressure pulling it next couple of months i.ll have to upgrade to a 2.0 ltr diesel have to brake the news to wife slowly.Thank,s again.

Approach the first trip with plenty of planning and not too much ambition and you'll be fine. Where are you thinking to launch?
165 is a great boat, no real safety fears unless you are going to do something silly like try to fish a force 7. As a working rule, I find anything with a 5 in the forecast is way too uncomfortable even though the boat copes OK.
The Focus will be OK with the towing side of things. My 1.6 Escort had a pretty similar weight and peak power output and even coped with a scarily steep pass on the way to Barmouth (though the brakes stank to high heaven on the way down:yucky: ). Recovery is another matter. I struggled for traction on my usual slipway (steep and gravelly). More low-down torque would have helped a bit but 4WD was the answer. If you can't find the balance between stalling and wheelspinning, one handy trick is to set off with the wheel hard over and straighten up as the clutch bites. Plus chock the wheels, so you are not juggling the handbrake release as well. Failing that, use your anchor warp to do a roped recovery with the car at the top of the slip (last resort).
