Hi Mark
Last fished this area 6 years ago. Stayed at Myrties. Theres a stone jetty and lots of small fish. Mostly Kefalos, a type of mullet.

I took a small jar of cockles for bait, worked a treat, especially if you buy a tin of tuna/mackrel and throw small balls of it in. Attracts all sorts of fish.

If you're there in August take a squid jig with you. The locals were catching good sized squid from the piers on Telendos at night. Telendos is a small island across the bay from Myrties. You can get a small boat there from the jetty for a small charge.

Hi Mark, Didn't see any boats for hire where I was. The main town is called Pothia with a large harbour. Might be worth a look there.

Best way is to speak to the locals when you get there.

Have a good trip anyway mate and when you return post the results of your efforts for all to see.

regards

Happy memories of Kalymnos & Telendos about 15 years ago......two weeks, never saw a cloud....apart from a tiny one which sat a top a hill on the Island every day. Watch out for the Eleanores(sp ?) Falcons.....like a cross between a Kite & a Kestral....although they are a Falcon, dozens of them appear at dusk & 'hawk' for insects. If I recall correctly the Quay where the Telendos Ferry leaves from had a couple of fising boats. I don't think those guys make much of a living & may well be prepared to put you over some fish for what would be 'pocket money' to us ? Telendos had a lot of Mullet as already described around the Quay, it was virtually deserted apart from a Taverna. You can walk around Telendos from the landing stage & having done some snorkleing you are soon over a mixed bed of rock, & sand / light weed. Didn't see many 'large' fish ( thankfullly !!) but there were plenty of little ones so there must be a food chain going on somewhere !! The 'main' town with the 'posh' Harbour ( & Town) is some way around from the place we were which was right opposite Telendos(the name escapes me ?!...that's age !!)....about 20 minutes by Taxi, your stomach catches up eventually ! Very relaxing place......wish I was back there now !.....it was as hot there as it's cold here !
