i have received the letter from mcs for the scheduled clean up date which is being held on the 19th and 20th sept 2009 i know its a couple of months off but please try and commit if you can , we usually have a great day or nites fishing, will list names of brave foolish souls  oops i mean volunteers lol, may be an idea this time to attack the crouch area as we havent hit this section of beach for a while but open to ideas, maybe even have a splinter group cover either crouch or narrows !! whatever is decided im sure we will have as much fun as we usually do on these rewarding events. cheers in advance...... james

Blimey you do like stress - a new baby and a house move! :showoff:
My youngest was born on the day we moved house!

It'll be great to get back to Suffolk in september. Orford will make a nice change from Sussex smoothounds.

It's been as poor a summer for honey as it has been for fish from the beach.... but I can always find a jar or two for fishing buddies, no worries!

Hi Peter,

Slightly off topic but do you want your jars back, seems a shame to throw them as they are a specific shape

Sure John, but only if you've NOT put them through a dishwasher, as the heat cooks the label’s glue such that you can never get the label off again. (labels should peel off before dishwashing easily enough though)

Honey jars should always be washed out, even if you are throwing them away, as the remaining honey may contain diseases that, while harmless to us, could be spread to bees if they find it and rob the remaining honey at a landfill site. (this is especially true for cheep supermarket honey - from god knows where!)

Hi All are welcome to this event.
The day starts from Orford dock postcode IP12 2NU where pete will ferry us to the island usually at about midday saturday time to be confirmed. When we arrive set your tents / bivvies then spend some agreed amout of time cleaning as you go, Once completed you then fish till your hearts content up to 6.00 am sunday where we meet at pickup point by 7.30 am on arriving back at the dock pete generously only asks for a small fee per person to cover fuel for both trips to and from island.

Look forward to meeting you all

ok all here is the cunning plan lol

ive arranged boat for 8 am and 12 midday so you can choose which boat to get , return is booked for sunday between 7 and 8 am ,
plan of action is im coming over midday as im on nites so will need some sleep, for those crossing at 8am could you kindly meet me at landing point for a brief on the clean up, i know most know the score but we do have some new souls and a few youngers so i need to do a briefing regards how to suck eggs lol. as per previous cleans ,team up into two or threes with one person recording whats collected makes life so much easier. thankyou to all for your support and patience in organizing of this years clean and fish,

ive spoken to pete who has said he is doing a crossing around 2ish so anyone on early crossing can get back , he may have later crossing return but thats subject to what he has booked on the day so be prepared to stay all nite. dont really need ot state this but for those that arent familiar with the island pack warm clothing and some shelter. any questions then ask me and will try to get a reply back to you asap

admitted that it was a neap tide this Saturday but the wall was not fishing very well a few tiddlers, on the ebb the crabs got going and stripped bait in minutes if that helps with the quantities of bait you may need. As Ron says the tides are better this week so should have a bit more luck, either that or i'll be so bored the beach will be spotless:hammer:

you'll get over there about 12.30, find a place to fish and set up your gear, leave a fair bit of space between you for when the tide rips through, you don't want to be crossing lines. BM will fill you in on the cleaning, make sure you bring shelter, warm clothing, and enough food and drink especially water to last all afternoon and night. Little update from the weather man

This wind is meant to drop off, Saturday 6-8mph direction ENE which means with the angle if the ness it will be blowing from the left, it's then due to shift overnight to WSW blowing in your right ear'ole. (May need to move the selter) Bad news is light rain Saturday, heavy rain Sunday so take your waterproofs.

Personally i don't understand it Scott isn't coming but they've forecast rain.

High tide if i've read it right is about 11.40 am and midnightish so might be good to fish up to HT and then do a bit of polishing.

This of course could all change due to the vague nature of the British weather.

Hope that helps some of you.

On the other hand if i was going your guaranteed rain, wind and anything else the weather gods can throw at you!! Even the Hardcore crew refuse to go fishing with me!! lol :cc_surren

My fingers are firmly crossed you all bagup with fish. Well done yet again James for organising this cleanup. it aint easy. I look forward to reading the report.

As for Ron. I reckon the temptation of good old British Cod fishing was just to great and he is using the work thing on his missus as an excuse to come back and fish the Island for some Cod! :fishing::fishing:

Coming from Ipswich area i assume, follow A12 out of Ipswich, follow signs for Orford from the A12. A1152 through Melton, turn left at roundabout onto B1084 towards Butley, Chillesford, just follow this road straight until you reach a junction, turn right towards Orford, follow road through Orford towards the quay, if your mum is dropping you off, drive slowly onto the key and unload your gear, you are looking for a boat called Regardless, ask for Peter Merrin if unsure.

Hope that helps

JamesHunt
18-09-2009, 21:57
Once you come off A12, go over the crossroads, and then over the level crossing, and past the pub called 'The wilford bridge' i think.... its on your left.
Once you get to the mini roundabout, turn left and keep on that road.
Eventually you come to a T-junction not far from orford castle...
Turn right at this junction.
A few minutes later you should see a fire station on your right, your on the right road.
Keep on this road, follow it through the town, past the garage and TA-DA!!!!
