Vhf Dsc Gps

I want to buy a fixed vhf dsc radio and want to connect it to its own gps reciever,all the radios I have looked at on the web say they are compatible with all gps recievers but so far I have only found 1 reciever kit that says its for vhf dsc.( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alan-GPS200-GPS-RECEIVER-KIT-FOR-ALAN-VHF-DSC-RADIO_W0QQitemZ4555357314QQcategoryZ15263QQssPageN ameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem )are the suppliers assuming that you are going to connect the radio to some sort of fixed gps chartplotter etc Does anyone know of gps reciever/attenna that plug straight in to your vhf like the one I have mentioned above.

All you need is a GPS which has an NMEA out feed - this connects to the NMEA IN on the radio. So it may not explicitly say it can be connected to a vhf but as long as it supports NMEA you should be ok!

Connecting a GPS to other evices is very, very easy. The GPS will have a cable with lots of wires coming out of it. Two will be power wires, the others will do all sorts of things. You only need one of these, plus ground. The manual will say which is NMEA OUT. There will be wires on the VHF, the manual will say which is ground and which is NMEA IN. That is all there is to it! I have wired my Garmin GPS to my VHF, and also to my laptop to hook into the Admiralty Chartplotter software, and it is so simple it feels like cheating.

Bare wires. The VHF manual will say which is which, ditto the GPS. You don't need plugs, just a soldering iron.

Thanks guys,got a navman vhf and a gps reciever from ebay wired it all up ,wired it up again works fine

You might want to check out the new Standard VHF/GPS the CPV350. I saw it at http://scubasteve.biz/store/manufacturers/standard/standardgpshh.htm

It looks pretty cool for someone with not a lot of space.
