We left port about 6pm in what I could only describe as near perfect conditions , so not targeting the mackerel until morning it was a bit of bottom bashing on the cards for the night, we anchored on an edge of a reef in about 80 feet of water, bait used was either Pilchards or whole squid.
Fishing was near impossible due to the vast amount of barracuda's around the boat and it was ashame Treeman wasn't aboard as he could have keeped them occupied while I was catching the proper fish but I suppose you can't have it all . So if I wasn't catching barrucuda upto 30lb it was either sweetlips or jacks making up most of the bag, I did catch a large shark and another one of those red bass to make up my catch so I can't complain.
After a few hours shut eye we pulled anchor at 1st light and headed into shallower water, this time of year the coral trout are congregating in the shallows and a nice big pilchard should see you right.
Today I wasn't interested in catching trout It was a nice Spanish I was after so after catching a nice fusilee for a livebait it was straight onto the hook which was dropped of the back of the boat tied to a balloon, it wasn't long until the line was screeming of the reel, not just once this happened but 3 bloody times, the only hook up I managed was a shark and this snapped my 140lb hook length in seconds , maybe I need to look into trying a few different things. My mates did catch a few trout between them.
On our way home we planned to stop at snapper island to try and catch a few mac tuna, they were around in numbers but we couldn't get the boat close enough to hook any.

In all a great days fishing and I can't wait until my next trip as we will have a fish finder fitted.

Sorry no photos as my camera broke
