Just a reminder whilst we're waiting for the autumn / winter fishing to kick in, the Mark Alsop Memorial Cup match will take place at Great Yarmouth on Sunday 11th October this year.

Mark would have been 45 years old this week.

Please help us to raise lots of money for the MacMillan Nurses cancer care group at the James Paget Hospital who do so much good work. Last year we fell just a few quid short of £1000 from our one day event and I hope that despite the recession, we can help them in a big way again this year.

We will be extremely grateful for any help in obtaining sponsors prizes as always and if anyone can help in any way, please call me on 07792 440086 or 01354 652653. (Answerphones available.)

It looks as if these reports of a few Whiting off Great Yarmouth beaches might be stirring a bit of interest in the event now

Over the past few days I have had several calls from people wanting to book tickets and it looks as if we're all getting keen for that autumn fishing which often sees a few early Codling make a showing.

Tickets for the match are now available from me (see poster) or from Gorleston Tackle where Derek & Jason also have a few tickets for the match again this year, but if you want to book up early to be sure of getting one you can send payment to me at 38C Nene Parade, March, PE15 8TD and I'll post your ticket/s back to you along with a copy of all match rules & map of venue.

Despite the recession, I'm pleased to say that we are still getting very welcome support from sponsors who have donated prizes in addition to the usual optional pools, which means another great charity fundraiser in the offing.

Lets hope the fish want to play their part too.

Just back from my annual late summer 'pilgrimage' to fish the west-country and am really pleased to see that the fish have started putting in an appearance around Gt Yarmouth. Some good Whiting and a few other species are being reported regularly now.

My post awaiting shows that an increase in ticket bookings has followed and now, I also have to say a big thank you to Dene and the North Norfolk chaps, who having agreed to move their Holt event to the Saturday.

This means that everyone who wants to support this very worthwhile Charity event should be able to and also fish the North Norfolk match too.

Just two weeks to go now folks,

I'm pleased and very grateful to be able to report that Mally & Mary, mine hosts at the Lacon Arms, Alderson Road, Great Yarmouth, have once again pitched into the fundraising activity by promoting the raffle etc.

On the day they will be providing hot Bacon Rolls, Tea & Coffee etc at the morning registration from 08.30 until 09.30 a.m and have also offered to lay on some further refreshments for competitors (free of charge) when we get back to do the resulting and prize presentations after the event.

Many thanks to them for their great help and don't forget to book your match tickets by post or by calling me on 07792 440086 or 01354 652653

Tickets are also available at Gorleston Tackle.

Just to answer a query that I had at the weekend, yes, there will be some tickets for this available on the day, but it is strictly limited to the length of beach available.

We can only get a maximum of 120 pegs in between the Jetty and the point on north beach hence the request for early booking so I know how many pegs will be taken

Last year we fished this for the first time and it was very successful attracting more than 70 anglers at pretty short notice.
