Just had a quote for insurance, strictly 3rd Party just to be able to register my boat to launch from the Knab Slip, 16' 6" 3rd Party only, 105.50!
Is that about par for the course, or should I be able to get it for less than that?

I got my first quote a couple of weeks ago, £350..but that did have full Liability cover.
Got it from a place that advertised on Boatsandoutboards....will continue looking I think.....:(
blueskip,
try www.baymarineinsurance.co.uk
got mine from porthcawl insurance only one hundred and twelve pounds fully comp. this is for a 17 ft wilson with a 65 hp suzuki outboard.
What you want insurance for 'skip? - it's not like your engine won't rev, or the auxillary won't start, or some clumsy t*at drops your shelf off the side of the boat;)
Try colincurtis insurance at plymouth most of the charter boats in whitby are insured with them they a cheaper than most

Try www.craftinsure.co.uk
Both Salar and my sailing dinghy are now insured with them - they HALVED the premium I was paying. All on-line, you only pay extra if you phone them.

Try Bristol Channel Marine, they do a lot of the PBA boats, and specialise in small commercial and charter type boats. Cosequently you get much better prices than ordinary marine insurance.

Loads of info there as usual, I shall trawl through them to find the best deal.
Paid4, your comments are noted, should I remind you that I got you home safely so that you could "winge" on the forum! I didn't mention your little "fracas" with my ergonomically designed, marine ply on oak, bait table, complete with handrail clips, which you managed to dump into the "oggin" with your fat ****, on purpose!
However now your secret is out you clumsy git! Do I have to bolt everything down before the next time you come to moan?

Sabretooth he is definitely on a "yellow card" after the last trip!

Can't leave me behind or I'd make his life a living hell on this forum
- only pulling your leg 'skip the trip was an object lesson in seamanship and the recovery was like a well oiled work of art. I'm in the process of carving a brand new bait table from a solid block of the finest Brazilian Mahogany cunningly smuggled into Burry Port disguised as a large block of Morrocan Red to replace the one I inadvertantly consigned to forever roam Swansea bay;)

Paid4, can you imagine the looks on the faces of Phil The Float, Brand, or some of the others who haunt the "long arm", if it was to wash up where they were fishing! There would be questions on next week's Antiques Roadshow, identify this object?
This reverie isn't getting me insured, they all want to know the year of manufacture of the boat, maker, model, date of last survey, fully comp only, all I want is 3rd party so that I can launch at the Knab, & if I sink somebody from the "Birmingham Royal Navy" they can have a new gin palace, & a new Ordnance Survey Map to navigate with!

Craftinsure from me too.
Last year while on two week holiday with boat some @#"*** helped themselves to my 4 week old auxillary engine. Within 24hrs I was authorised to get it replaced and cheque was waiting for me when I got home of break.:boat:

Just renewed my insurance, fully comp with Porthcawl, best price on the web, tho Saga insurance ( ye you have to be 50 or more ) beat it by pennies, I don't count that as the differrance was next to bugger all, Had quotes up to £350, Porthcawl was £206 for a £25k boat, Cheaper than the car ! Sometimes it's not worth going 3rd Party, the cost can be very close so take the extra cover.

I only paid $17,500(sorry my pound sign doesn't work) for my house! I paid 675 for the boat, & swapped a 25HP Yam which I bought for 230, for the Merc50HP, so all up I am still well short of a grand!
If I had a 25K boat I wouldn't mind paying 206 either, but for a boat worth only 100s, 3rd party will do me fine!
Plus the fact that to do fully comp they want to know who made it & when? I have no idea about either, & a survey would cost a fortune! All I want is Third Party, which is the requirement before you can register your vessel with Swansea Council, (if you are over 15HP), to launch at Knab Slipway.
However I think it would be easier to buy a bag of rocking horse droppings than 3rd party insurance, only one company have agreed, but for $105! I dont pay that for my Discovery insurance!
