Hi,
Today I aquired an old johnson seahorse 3hp outboard foc. Does anyone know anything about these engines. I am presuming it is circa 1950s due to it's styling.
model No JHL 19M
serial No B4108
Here are a few pics taken this evening.

are you sure its 19m t the end of that bit of the number? We had one which ended with 78c which johnson told us meant 1978 age...
Could it be 79m?

Definately 19m.
Ohhh 1964, smashing, year I was born. Think I'll have a go at getting it running and use it on my tender then. Any more info or sites I could learn more from?
Cheers Chris.

Hi again,
Well, stripped it down, cleaned and reset points, replaced spark plugs, cleaned float chamber, jets, carb etc......Checked water pump impeller, put it back together pulled rope and she started first time. Runs like a dream:)
My only concern is running it a slow speeds in the dustbin (water butt) there does not appear to be any water being expelled out the exhaust ports. The head does not get remotely hot though, just warmish! The link to the fab website someone posted for the manuel is confusing me slightly:blink:
It only mentions water being visible when running full speed. Should I have water visible from the exhaust ports on this model at all speeds? Finding it a bit difficult to run full speed as it chucks half the water out:g:
It only mentions water being visible when running full speed.
That's correct-my 4hp backup circa '74 is the same-it cools perfectly but you only really see a spray of water from the exhaust at high revs.

Cheers Nos for confirming that. Tried running at full speed earlier and got the right result, plus getting soaked from waist down :-) Will be using this unit now on my tender. Superb.....
