Here we go then Team England, round 9 of the humiliation of the 'ragbag' Team Wales.

The format this year is.......

One joint meet close enough to the bridge to be within easy access for most. (Winter)

One Welsh home meet anywhere in Wales.(Early Summer)

One English home meet anywhere in England.(Late Summer/Autumn)

There's no 'entrance fee', nor has there ever been.

This is not a competition or match, nor has it ever been.

Join in for a chance to meet new faces, make new friends and contacts,

enjoy the banter (always friendly) and just maybe catch a few fish.

Simples ! http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i219/patester/imagesfdfsfss.jpg

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i219/patester/4160564.jpg

Cold Knap Beach, Barry CF62 8.

3pm till 8.30pm.... On Saturday 2nd Jan 2010.....

Meet around 2pm in the car park.

A raffle will be drawn after the fishing, ALL proceeds will be donated to the RNLI.

http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i219/patester/Picturesfromdongle148.jpg

This coveted CUP will, once again, be awarded to the captor of the 'Best Fish' on the day.

Great news lads and lassies...................

Having had a chat with Andy and others the general opinion is that we would do better this year to combine the ENGLAND v WALES and the George Thornley meets with all the funds raised going to the RNLI.

So, not only the chance to win the 'FAMOUS CUP' but also the GEORGE THORNLEY SHIELD.

hi simon m8 fair comms mucca the end time was set to give the english time to recover from the huge defeat they got lol....:clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2:

patester

The result of the comp is................

England 12 anglers caught 940cm of fish... an average of 78 cm

Wales a minimum of 30 anglers caught 1189cm of fish....an average of 40 cm

These are the total lengths on the cards I have been given.

A fair amount of confusion, regarding numbers, exists on the Welsh side .
Therefore the result is based on a conservative estimate of the number of Welsh anglers.

Although it gives me great pleasure in declaring a resounding ENGLISH victory I'd like to thank every man and woman who turned up and made this one the best attended meets to date.

The £234 raised for the RNLI was tremendous.

And a few words from me to you Paul......I DONT CARE THAT YOU HAVE MORE M8S ON HERE OR THAT YOU WERE INVOLVED IN THE ORGANISATION, IF YOU EVER SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT AGAIN IN PUBLIC, AND CALL ME WHAT YOU DID WITHIN EASY EARSHOT OF A COUPLE OF MY FISHING M8S.....THEN YOU AND I WILL HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM!
But then again, that is unlikely to happen, as I will NEVER AGAIN fish another of these meets.

AT NO POINT WHATSOEVER THAT NIGHT WAS I SET UP DIRECTLY BEHIND HIM, AND IF AT ANY TIME I WAS, THEN I CERTAINLY WASNT FISHING AT THE TIME, I DIDNT EVEN HAVE MY FIRST CAST UNTIL ABOUT 5:50pm!!!

I set up my gear on top of the beach BUT DIDNT EVEN BAIT A HOOK UNTIL 5:30. The reason for this and for my fishing buddy on the day(who, incidentally, DID NOT EVEN HAVE HIS FIRST CAST UNTIL NEARLY 7 PM)doing this was to allow him to come further up the beach on the pebbles where it becomes wider....(and therefore allows each angler more room) I worked out where he would be if he carried on coming backwards IN A STRAIGHT LINE (which neither he nor the two to his left did) and moved 15 yards to the right of where this was, had 1 cast with a big fish bait, which I left out there for an hour or so. During that time, he retrieved twice at least, and on two occasions.....guess what....HE WAS OVER ME! Then he packed his teddies back into his pram and left.
Funny thing was, by the time I actually started fishing, I was probably actually close to Chris (Hookep Up) than I was to Bobby, but if memory serves me right, Chris and I never crossed lines at all.
The guy I was fishing with did not even cast out for the first time until he had gone, and even allowed 15 minutes after that for him to return in case he had just gone for a pee, or to get a hot dog/coffee etc.
WE DID EVERYTHING WE COULD TO ACCOMODATE HIM, INCLUDING MOVING AFTER THE FIRST TIME HE WHINGED TO ANDY ABOUT ME (and even then I wasnt behind him, I had just set my tripod and rods up at least 40 yards behind him in a space between him and the tripod to his left, which I noticed was quickly filled by an angler who beforehand was sharing a tripod with the guy to his left) AND TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE NOT FISHING AT ANY TIME WHATSOEVER IN A LINE BETWEEN HIM AND THE TOP OF THE BEACH!!!

If you or Andy had bothered coming up to where I was set up, then you would have seen this. You may have seen where I was standing, but you didnt see MY rods there.
Oh, and I didnt even bring a lamp that day, so saying to me "I could see your tilley lamp directly behind him" just made you sound even sillier)

You saw what Simon? I'll tell you what you saw....you saw me sitting on top of the beach, rods out of the water, and not fishing, nor even having a "loosener" cast until nearly 6 PM, by which time it was dark, so your assumtion of exactly where I was fishing was based on you seeing a headlight! After that, you MAY have seen me fishing at a point further from the water's edge than he was, BUT YOU DID NOT SEE ME, NOR ANYBODY ELSE FISHING BEHIND HIM!
Brickie said to me in PM that someone else had said something on this matter, and was I calling you both liars? Well, if you say you saw me or anybody else FISHING behind bobby.......then "Yes", I am.
You say that you are disappointed with my attitude and that you are surprise I acted that way. Well, not half as disappointed as I am that I am now being accused of this crap! Am I supposed to have just rolled over, kissed arse and apologised for something I haven't done? Sorry, not my style m8!

And just how the hell do you know what I said Simon? Was it cos brickie told you what I was supposed to have said?? Must have been, cos you and I never said a word to each other all day, nor were you around when brickie spoke to me on top of the beach.
Well guess what, he got that little snippet of information totally wrong too.
Oh, and Bob was well aware that we were sitting on top of the beach, waiting for him to move further up the pebbles as the tide flooded, so that the naturally increased room due to the curvature of the beach would allow all of us room to fish there.
Makes no difference that he drove from Lancs. In fact, at about the same time I cast out for the first time, or possibly even before, I even heard him saying words to the effect of "I havent driven 270 miles for someone to cast over my line, I wont let that happen". I'm just wondering......would it have made any difference if he'd driven from the other side of Barry? Well....guess what....it's fishing. And guess what else.......as mentioned before......he cast over me.....TWICE!
There were 50-60 anglers on that beach that afternoon/evening, and any one of them who werent right at, or one in from either end who thought that there was no chance that anyone was going to cast over them at some point, was being foolish.

Simon, with as much respect as i can give....
you are eather A, trying to get a raise (poorly) or B- with referance to anyone setting up, then casting over? anyone, talking out your earse pal. read below ;)

I suppose, in some kind of vain attempt, which i have a funny feeling isnt going to get anywhere... a few very simple FACTS to begin with.

We arrived at the start of the meet, left our kit with a mate and collected bait for an hour, ariving back at 3.20pm.

the beach was HEAVING so rather than eather fishing A, porthkerry rocks or B, past the point (it was that full, we left, or waited to see how it went) we decided to set up on top of the rocks (no baits, no casting, oh...and no water) and watch the fishing for a while, to judge if the line would thin out as people where pushed back up the shoreline. now i didnt bother fishing till 7pm (watching happily for 3 1/2 hours) but mart took a wander down to a pretty wide open space to get a cast in, during setting up... this was objected by a fellow angler, politley i might add, so it was left at that and mart continued to watch the proceedings alongside me from top.

later on i approached the guy directly below me (same bloke) to politley mention A, had he managed to catch a fish/s? (you had caught 1 wyting btw), and B, i would happily move as the tide pushed him back, and i wasn't booking a spot on the top. buy the way, no one was fishing behind anybody FACT, and thats just plain stupid to even suggest.
so.... as the line widened up, mart go's to the right of the gentleman that previously objected and starts fishing. the space is somewhat wider now, fact.

another fact, there was just as much space between mart and said fisherman, as there was between the opposite fisherman on marts right, and if you looked down the beach, some where quite happily fishing alot closer together, and i mean alot. happily, like grown up's.

now, who crossed lines with who, i really dont care... or how far someone travels to get there... if i travelled 270 miles and started calling someone a **** because they decided to fish next to me, or my 'friend' did it for me, i would really expect a little more that just a reply. and, i think i would deserve it. you honestly think thats acceptabe? really?

for my first large meet, i was disturbed by the 'this is moy laand' attitude when all it would have taken was a small step to the left, for anyone knows mart could have travelled 400 miles to be there, the point is there was more than enough space, just pi$$ poor attitude by one or two in what was a charity fundraiser.

i was also quite embarrassed when it broke into loud arguing and **** this, **** that. there where people in cars watching what was a huge and previously friendly fishing meet. it just made anglers (well a couple anyways) look very, very silly, from both sides, or if i was in one of the cars, thats the way i would take it.

now, make of above as you will, and reply with what you like, i really dont care,
and- i dont lie to or for anyone btw... theres some utter rollocks on a few previous posts, end of!

i personally turned up, seen it was packed, sat at the top for 4 hours before my first cast, after someone had left, even giving them 15 mins to come back- and even had the decency beforehand to let the same guy below know i would happily move as he approached the pebbles.

it seemed incediblty petty, as does this argument going on above.

the day i start calling people ****'s over a fooping hobby, expensive or not....

the rods go on fleabay.

i just went to have a few hours chilling after a hectic week, i was even happy to just watch in awe the sight of the whole knap 'lit up' but
chilled it wasn't.

hats off to the guys that put so much effort into organising what was (bar above) a very good night. next time though i think ill just chuck a tenner in the RNLI's tin, what would it be like if you snagged someones line, and lost them a good fish? probably better than i the responce the other night ironicaly.

Im merley pointing out fact and i am saying very clearly, there's some utter bull**** in a few comments up till now on the subject, and i would happily say that to their face, and express the point if required. i was 10 yards from martin all night and i cannot tollerate liars, hence my reply.

suggesting mart just turned up, set up and started launching leads from behind someones head (which is basically being suggested) is the biggest load of dribble ive had the misfortune to read on here. he simply tried to get a bait in the water, where there was room for one more, or.... apparently there wasn't.

i guess the christmas spirits been poured down the sink.

its 2010 ffs, lifes too short as-is, enjoy.

You are right Andy, you did ask me politely, and there was no problem with that. Where the problem arises is where you think that I said I was there first, I didnt say that. When I first plonked my gear down, just on the sand, I was still 50-60 yards from the water. I was however right in the middle of a gap of 20 yards+ between Bobby and jeff's m8, who was at this point sharing a tripod with someone else. By the time I had assembled my rods on the tripod and attached a lead (no rigs at this point), jeff's m8 had moved to the right from where he was sharing a tripod with the other guy to a point near enough exactly between Bobby and the other guy who's tripod he had been sharing, and therfore directly in front of me. It was at this point that I could see there was going to be a problem, so I moved all my gear 30-40 yards up the pebbles to see how things were gonna pan out. After I had moved (STILL not behind Bobby) is when you called me down and we had a few words. What I actually said to you was that I had first put my gear down BEFORE jeff's mate had moved to his right, whilst he was still fishing with the guy to his left. I AT NO POINT SAID THAT I HAD GOT THERE BEFORE BOBBY. This is where the problem has arisen, you either mis-heard or misinterpreted what I said. Anyway, after we had had a chat, that was when I decide to just move all my gear back up on top of the beach, move 15 yards to the right of an imaginary line between where bobby was at the waters edge and the top of the beach, and just set-up camp there....BUT STILL NOT FISHING!
The rest of the evening's events unfolded as described above by smiley73.

Why do I need to go to the beach to "book" a spot? It's a public beach, and when things get busy, as a mark of respect to angler's already there, we just try to fit in where we can. If and when it becomes a matter of "booking" a space, then thats where pegs come into the matter, but this was an informal meet, so that shouldn't be necessary. And as far as paul being "hopping mad" cos of the way I was acting towards Bobby goes, I just dont get that  He and I hardly said a word to each other all night, with the exception of (quickly)sorting out a tangle after he retrieved his line which had been cast over mine. No harsh words were exchanged, voices were not raised, we just sorted it out n that was that. Knowing that we had got there after everybody else, smiley and I did everything we could to respect the fact that others were there before us, and did EVERYTHING we could to accommodate that fact.
Bottom line is (IMO)....YOU misheard or misinterpreted me, BOBBY made a big deal about problems which didnt even exist, and BRICKIE thought it could all be sorted out by arguing with me in public, not listening to what I had to say, and then calling me a "rhymes with punt" in a big voice over his shoulder.
