Hi all - was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some decent tackle shops in North London. The one nearest to me is heavily focussed towards course fishing (which makes sense), and has very little by way of sea fishing gear. I've heard of a place in Edmonton, but haven't made it up there yet... If anyone knows of that place, or any other, it would be great if you could let me know.

Cheers. BP.

I think that sometimes it's better to use tackle shops on or near the coast as they generaly have more and know about more sea gear and have an ear to the grapevine.
You will certainly get the best advice based on local knowledge and knowhow.
Which is your favoured bit of coast?

Bowlers in dagenham used to stock a fair range of sea stuff give them a ring. still a fair way from you though.

I dont know idf they are still around or what they do but maybe you had heard of the followibmg that doesn't have a web site.
Look at the phone number beginning 0181
DON'S OF EDMONTON
Address:DON'S OF EDMONTON
239, Fore Street,
Edmonton
London N18 2TZ
0181 807 5219

Perhaps if you tell us the venues that you want to visit and the gear you want to buy, then perhaps we can point you at some shops.

Hi Big Phil :)

Whereabouts in North London are you mate?
I'm in Finchley, there's a few tackle shops around me, the first one is in Friern Barnet (close to Finchley) D&A Tackle N12 0RU. They have a bit of sea tackle etc

or go here and click on 'maps' to see whats closest to you...

Where do you usually fish? I mostly fish in Kent but will be trecking to the Essex coast in the near future, there are some excellent bait/ tackle shops in Dover, my fav is Bills Bait N Tackle on snargate st, really good fresh bait!

Hi , i find inland tackle shops are useually expensive and they have no
clue of our sport , and just stock the basics sea stuff , you can find the odd one , we have a few in the midlands i can use if im desperate
but tend to buy gear more near the venue im fishin , we have a truly massive tackle shop just 3 mile from me , stocking carp , game etc , and has an impresive sea tackle isle , but sooo expensive , pack of basic macky feathers £2 ! , old model penn mag reels £149 ! NO special offers ,
my advice to use Mail order VEALS is a good one why not here WSF ! there very competative

I use potters bar angling for some tackle, you wont be able to get fresh worms or crab away from the beach , some shops have frozen baits my local fishmonger stock squid at £2.20 a box well worth asking around local fish mongers for squid, I have tried grays for worms but wernt very good tilbury might be better.

If you can get over to South London try Ken Collins in Sutton. Ken is a former pro fishermen and does both fresh water and sea fishing. He has always got some good sea gear in stock. Hope this is of some help to you mate.

For bait try a chap called Ian off the forum, his forum name is Baitman and he's 10 minutes from the Dartford Crossing. He does Blow lug, rag and peelers. Send him or me a PM for contact details.

Don's at Edmonton is now closed !!! He retired....

Could try Frames at Edgeware but generally speaking you might be better off to get bait and small items on the coast and bigger tackle from mail order outlets like Veals.

Leave home an hour earlier and stop at the local beach/mark tackle shop.

I've now been doing this in Sussex a few years and now have my face known in at least 4 tackle shops, though local I am not.

It makes the trips more fun when you arrive after a 2 hour bank holiday jam, acheing to fish and the shop owner/assistant wants to talk for 10 mins about what you caught the weekend before! lol.

I wound'nt shop in london with all that local knowledge at the mark, even though some of it does need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

There's an outfit right next to South Kensington tube station, can't recall the name. They cater for big game for sure given the kit in the window, and , at a guess fly fishing, looks pricey but it is right next door to a pub so it's not all bad.
