All depends on dates, but as I have never fished Orford and would like to do my bit I will happily come help out if the dates tie in with work.

12th is a neap, bottom of the tide cycle before they start building again. 19th is a spring though not a massive one, at least down here in Portsmouth.
Would be interested in coming up for this, heading to Orford at the end of the month for a day at the end of half term week and will be looking at getting up there half a dozen times to chase the spring run. Coming to the beach clean will be a good way of giving something back, especially as a lot of you boys up there have been very helpful with advice and info for both Aldeburgh and the Ness.

in previous events we have found that serious matches attract wrong attention and only those chasing money or prizes and not intersted in clearing up , happy for a freindly comp between those that wish to but anything to serious and it gets stupid, the idea behind the clean and fishes is ultimatly clear up all the crap lazy arses leave over the island thus protecting future fishing and also to have some fun doing what we enjoy, i have enough to deal with arranging the clean up side so if your happy to arrange the freindly comp be my guest, and thankyou for pledging your support will post in meets section now i have some interest to keep it simple . cheers james

HOw about then, as i think it will help the turn out for the primary reason to be there..... cleaningup! The winner...... gets to choose a charity of his or her choice to donate the winnings too????
Im not bothered about the money , but bragging rights on here would be fantastic!!!!!!! he he he.....
How about east v's south east etc etc ........ or even east vs south vs west vs north...... "The four corners Clean up charity match" sounds like a plan........??????
Leave all the rest to me i would be happy to help....

no problem gazza33 will leave that to you to arrange thankyou for your support, as said its supprising what arranging you have to make to do clean ups as we are controlled by all the red tape britain has nowadays lol if i can have numbers who are coming so i can arrange equipment accordingly , we do have a regular bunch of guys that attend most clean ups but we are always gratefull to have more, will edit my first post as and when plans come together to make it easier to keep tabs, once again a huge thankyou and looking forward to a great session

hi gazza ive had some replies from regulars and they are not interested in the match side of things so looks like its going to be just what initially intended to be a clean and fish event , sorry about that ,was wondering as i said before we got to many that werent interested in the clean up and put loads of others off, cheers james

I'll do any saturday James. I see PoutMagnet has already put my name forward!
I'm not interested in a match but I'll put some leads up again for the best flatfish and round fish. I need to give some away so I can make more!

Very funny! I can quickly go off some people.
To be honest I went to my stash and I've still got about 120 as instant replacements. Phew! Panic over! :showoff:
As long as we are back from Tasmania we should be able to make the clean, I've yet to fish the Crouch so hope we'll clean there this time.
Not interested in the match side myself though, sorry Gazza; full marks for trying to drum up extra support for the clean though.
I'll swap some of your leads for some of my honey if your interested Andrew? I might even have some old lead flashing going spare!

Sounds llike a deal!
Count me in somewhere along the line.
How about a grapple off? Definitely not a match but if a few people are knocking together grapples as seems to be the case we could have a light hearted snag and junk clearing comp before people start fishing.
Be good for the beach clean as we could shift some of the muck that you don't see but will probably come ashore at some point.

hello again everyone, sorry havent been on the last few days, my broadband at home is screwed at the moment.
Anyhow, from what im reading people are cool to turn up without the match idea..... no problem , just a thought anyway.....
I wreckon the 12th is prob the best idea though I myself need to sort a pass out from the wife and no doubt she would think of a reason why i couldnt go on that date too.... However i may have a "Trade Show" to go to on that date if you no what i mean..... nudge nudge, wink wink and all that so should be able to swing it!
I guess i will have to talk with pete the ferryman as he will no doubt be a crucial part of the plan to make this a success.
I think i will still put forward an incentive for everyone to turn up on the day anyway, some sort of prize donated by the shop. Not a lot but maybe a rod and reel or something like that to the person to catch the biggest fish "AFTER" we have trudged up and down the beach a few times..... Every little helps and all that....
Just drop me a pm whoever is able to attend on the 12th...... then i will be able to speak to pete about arrangements.
I will proberly use the excuse to do the night over there also depending on what the wife says!!!!
Good on you boys who have already pledged support, lets hope the numbers grow, great chance to meet the other anglers from here and someone can teach me how to pendulum properly!!!!

We usualy hold all the cleans on a Saturday and fish overnight into Sunday, at least all the ones I've been on.
I will try and do the 5th, but as we come back from Tasmania just a few days before, I might have to pull out at the last minute due to jet lag .... hard life aye!

Ok, I booked the Monday off (7th) so Jetlag can wait until then.
I also booked every other Monday in December off, so if there are still double figure fish coming out I might have a couple more sessions before the New Year. Will still have another two days off in December to book if anything warrants it (have only had three days off so far this year)
John, can you book me two wraps of worms again, I won't get a chance to before we come back. I'll bring the tackle I'm expecting to bring back from Tas with me to try, although much of it is likely to be more use in clear water! Any chance you'll have picked up that grapple by then? ... I'm itching to catch me some lead!
Won't know if I'll bring anyone else with me until the last minute I'm afraid.

Am sure someone more suited will post properly so just a quick word, fishing was real slow, only a few small codling showing, whiting, doggies, dabs and pout, i am well happy with mine though, just weighed them and biggest is 5lb 6oz, only looked about 4 though ! other one was 4lb5oz, one was returned about a pound and a half i guess and about a dozen whiting, pleased with that considering the fishing was so slow !
WIND WIND RAIN RAIN AND MORE WIND SEEMED TO FINISH THE SESSION OFF, was good to get over and clear some rubbish up though, nice to meet you all and hopefully see you on the next one !

Thanks for doing such a Fantasic job as usuall.
We really appreciate what you are doing for the Ness.
Thankyou

Kudos to those that fished all night, I gave up at about midnight and sat it out in my beach buddy, the wind crippling my casting distance so much; and it was even a wasted effort trying different tactics in the hope of some close in fish, which during the whole 24 hours produced two pout and a nice sized dab (Ok, I didn't fish the whole 24 hours of course)
Looking back, at least we cleaned up the beach a bit, which was quite a mess. Mostly tidal rubbish but disappointingly still a number of squid boxes, fresh beer cans and discarded line!
I don't mind blanking (Cod at least), never have, but I do like to at least get a bait out where it stands a chance, rather than huddling in the cold and wet all night; hopefully before the next clean I'll get a couple of casting lessons and a couple of new rods and reels so I can punch through the wind with more success, either that or I'll have to watch the wind forecast more carefully, as it's a long way to come from Cambridge just to get a sleepless night!

Peter, with conditions the way they were i dont think any casting lessons in the world would have helped, fighting a losing battle with wind like that in your face, i fished all night but was really struggling to get out any distance, i only kept fishing to take my mind off the cold and wet !!!
Would be interested in some lessons as well though if you find anyone local enough, can only help in the long run and am looking for a pair of new rods and reels myself, so be good to get the most out of them !

I had casting lessons after 25+years of beach fishing and it really did sort me out. I didn't find the wind too bad but I gave up at 4am when the rods started blowing about.
I was having to really spank it and the effort I was putting in was more like a tournament cast over a field. I did blow 20+ lug out of my D-gripper that showered back over me amusing Marlow Mick no end.
I recommend lessons and try as many rods as you can before buying. I was using a CME, Kompressor SS and PoutMagnet's C3 LD and they easily handle driving 7oz leads into the wind. The SS was probably the best of the three.
I'll be in touch Peter.
