I had a great holiday in alcudia last year, so i have booked up again for the same place, the hotel is right on the harbour where i noticed loads of mullet and bass cruising around , some anglers were trying there best to catch them on luncheon meat but in a whole week i only seen one bass caught. This year i am going to take a travel rod and i am going to have a go for them , my question is will regular british methods catch these fish e.g. spinning and plugging for bass and float fishing using bread as bait for the mullet , do i need a licence or is sea fishing free in Spain, thanks for any info J.V.:)

ive fished at alcudia, nice place innit. had some small mullet on the float with bread but didnt try for bass, i didnt see any coming to think of it. Have a go right at the end of the stone jetty next to the marina. i was catching some slim tuna like creatures using the float there, and i seen a guy catch what looked like a small grouper? ive added a pic that ive marked with a red cross to show where we were fishing if thats any help.

Hi Jarrow Viking
There's a bit on Majorca, albeit brief, on this thread - http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16066. And yes you do need a licence, although there're some practical observations on this thread - http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13766 from Gary.
There's also a link to a shorefishing web site, albeit covering the Costa Brava on the mainland, that might help in terms of techniques - http://www.garysmithfishing.com/shorefishing.htm. That said when I tried it didn't load correctly!

hi there jarrow anything you need to ask about the north of mallorca im your man cause ive been living over here for the last three years .there is a peach of a mark just outside alcudia called alconada its fantastic shore fishing there and no more than a spinning rod required.but if your into mullet there everwhere the spanish dont eat them so there is an abundance of them
im gonna rename this island mullet malloca
for rigs you will need a float set up and a rig wallet full of 3or four hook flappers using flourocarbon and size 6 to 12 hooks
bread is the most consistent bait allthough if you can get them fresh enough coreano jumbos'which is a type of small ragworm i think cut into cm sectionsand if you want to meet up cause im just 10 mins away from alcudia or you want some info just pm me
tight lines gary

gary that mark called alconada sounds like a good one, spinning is my game more than mullet fishing , i wont be there until August though but would love to meet up with you, you could show me how and where to fish , gary i will remember your excellent offer and hope to take you up on it, i have already noticed a few of your posts and read that you live on majorca, even if i dont catch a thing it will give me a bit of a break from the sunbathing J.V.:clap3:

hi jarrow you get a better sun tan while your fishing anyway, you are kind of restricted from most of the good spots at that time of the year due to all the people on the beaches but there is always somewhere

Hi Gary
I was intrigued to see your comment about Blue and White Marlin off Majorca.
Some years ago I recall one of our members located his boat on Majorca for the run of Bluefin Tuna. Would that have been later in the year, in the Autumn months? And I was aware that they catch the very occasional Spearfish in the Med and I've seen the odd picture of a White Marlin taken off Italy and Croatia. But I hadn't realised there was a run of Blues.
Is there anything you could perhaps add as the the months they fish for them, catch rates and sizes? I'm sure those viewing it as a holiday destination would be particularly interested.
Kindest regards
Dave

had a great time myself. didn't get as far as the harbour as i was too busy catching mullet in the canals some as big as 5lb,just on small pieces of bread, i used small treble hooks that i bought i didnt have a float just 3 treble hooks about an inch apart i tied it around the bread and within a minute i was catching. Nobody said anything about a licence and lots of spanish seen me as they were clapping every time i caught, i tried it in an harbour in cala bona and somone complained you cant fish where there are boats going back to alcudia in may june and july :)
